Background information:

The Ambitions Event is in its 8th year of serving the needs of students of South Gloucestershire Schools. Held over 2 days in October, it has grown to become the largest and most dependable careers event in the south-west of England, attended by all South Gloucestershire secondary schools (a total of 5,000 participants, including parents), over 100 local and regional employers, training providers and more than 30 Higher Education providers . All schools incorporate it into their careers programme, thus reducing the need to hold many small events which is more efficient for the employers and businesses serving them.

Ambitions is uniquely home-grown, being supported by the schools, South Gloucestershire Council, SGS College and UWE, each of whom contributes financially to the running of the event (currently £50k+). It is able to focus on the future employment needs of the local economy by using current labour market forecasts to decide what sectors are emphasised to students. To protect Ambitions from public sector cuts and ensure that it continues to provide a vital resource we are introducing a ‘Support Ambitions’sponsorship scheme to add business partners to our network of support.

For young people, the process of making decisions about the future - what to aim for in relation to education, training and employment - has become increasingly complex. Not only is there a bigger range of possible choices than ever before, but also rapidly changing technological and economic circumstances continue to have a major impact.

Young people need to be as fully aware as possible of opportunities for progression and the ways in which they can enhance their employability - the October Ambitions event is designed to help school students in South Gloucestershire improve their awareness of the workplace and better understand the sorts of skills that will be important for their future plans by taking part in activities with employers.

We want to offer current and new contributors the opportunity of supporting this prestigious event in the careers calendar. In return the event and surrounding publicity will enable businesses and other organisations toraise awareness of their brand identity, promote services, or support CSR objectives.
