Important Safety Instructions

When installing and using this spa, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following.

1. Read and follow all instructions.

2. Danger - To reduce the risk of injury, DO NOT permit children to use this product unless they are closely supervised at all times.

3. Warning - Risk of child drowning. Extreme caution must be exercised, to prevent unauthorized access by children. To avoid accidents, ensure that children cannot use a spa or hot tub unless they are supervised at all times.

4. Connect only to a properly grounded isolated receptacle

(110 volt units only).

5. Do not bury cord (110 volt units only).

6. Warning - To reduce the risk of electric shock, replace damaged cord immediately (110 volt unit only).

7. Danger - To reduce risk of injury to persons, do not remove suction grate(s) or cover.

8. A wire connector is provided in the control box inside the unit to permit connection of a minim no. 8 AWG (8.4mm2) solid copper bonding conductor between this point and any metal equipment, metal enclosures of electrical equipment, metal water pipe or conduit within 5 feet (1.5m) of the unit as needed to comply with local requirements.

9. (110 volt and 220 volt) There needs to be a (GFCI) ground fault circuit interrupt breaker installed in your main electrical supply panel that should be tested periodically. Simply press the test button to insure it disconnects the electricity, and then reset by pushing the reset button. If at any time this breaker is inoperable have it serviced immediately.

10. Install the spa foundation with appropriate drainage so that the equipment compartment and electrical components are kept dry. Always keep all water away from electrical equipment and take care not to hose or spray the equipment compartment.

11. Danger - Risk of electric shock - Install spa at least 5 feet (1.5m) from all metal surfaces. A spa may be installed within 4 feet of metal surfaces if each metal surface is permanently connected by a minimum no. 8 AWG (8.4 mm) solid copper conductor attached to the wire conductor on the terminal box that is provided for this purpose.

12. Danger - Risk of electric shock. Do not permit any electrical appliance, such as a light, telephone, radio, or television set within 5 feet (1.5m) of a spa.

13. To reduce the risk of injury:

A)The water in the spa should never exceed 104 degrees F (40 degrees C) Water temperatures between 100 degrees F (38 degrees C) and 104 degrees F (40 degrees C) are considered safe for a healthy adult. Lower water temperatures are recommended for extended use (exceeding 10-15 minutes, and for young children).

B) Since excessive water temperatures have a high potential for causing fetal damage during early months of pregnancy, pregnant or possibly pregnant women should limit spa water temperatures to 100 degrees F (38 deg.C).

C) Before entering a spa, the user should measure the water temperature with an accurate thermometer since the tolerance of water temperature-regulating devices may vary as much as +/- 5 degrees F (3 degrees C).

D) The use of alcohol, drugs, or medications before or during spa use may lead to unconsciousness with the possibility of drowning.

E) Persons suffering from obesity or with a medical history of heart disease, low or high blood pressure, circulatory system problems or diabetes should consult a physician before using a spa.

F) Persons using medications should consult a physician before using a spa since some medications may affect heart rate, blood pressure, and circulation .

14. The electrical supply for this product must include a suitably rated switch or circuit breaker to open all underground supply conductors to comply with section 422-20 of the National Electrical Code, ANSO/NFPA 70- 1987. The disconnecting means must be readily accessible to the spa occupant, but installed at least 5 feet (1.5m) from the spa water.

Cautions:

Observe a reasonable time limit in spa. Long exposure at high temperatures can result in dizziness, and/or hyperthermia (unusually high body temperature).

Hyperthermia occurs when the internal temperature of the body reaches a level several degrees above the normal body temperature of 98.6 degrees F. The symptoms of hyperthermia include dizziness, fainting, drowsiness, lethargy and an increase in the internal temperature of the body. The affects of hyperthermia include:

1. Unawareness of impending hazard.

2. Failure to perceive heat.

3. Failure to recognize the need to exit spa.

4. Physical inability to exit spa.

5. Fetal damage in pregnant women.

6. Unconsciousness resulting in a danger of drowning.

WARNING - THE USE OF ALCOHOL, DRUGS OR MEDICATION

CAN GREATLY INCREASE THE RISK OF FATAL HYPOTHERMIA

IN HOT TUBS AND SPAS.

Always enter and exit a spa slowly. It is recommended that children be supervised when using the spa. It is recommended not to use the spa alone.

Do not bring any electrical appliances into or near the spa.

Never operate any electrical appliances from inside the spa or while wet.

The consumer product safety commission has stated that water temperature in a spa or hot tub should not exceed 104 degrees F. Immersion in water in excess of 104 degrees F can be hazardous to your health.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS:

110 - 120 Volt Units:It is necessary to provide a Dedicated 20 Amp GFCI, 120 Volt, grounded 3 wire supply to the spa from your electrical panel with a 20 Amp female receptacle for your spa to plug into. (No other appliances or lights on this circuit at any time) Extension cords are not to be used in conjunction with the operation of the spa.

OR

220 - 240 Volt Units: It is necessary to provide a Dedicated 50 Amp, 240 Volt, 4 wire grounded supply, which includes a neutral lead, from your main electrical panel to the equipment under the spa cabinet. It must be run in conduit as specified by local ordinances and the National Electric Code (NEC). The spa must be protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected breaker. Do NOT use Romex wiring!

[Note: An option would be to have a regular 240 Volt, 50 Amp Breaker in your main panel with a 50 Amp GFCI Protected Disconnect in the electrical run near the spa per the NEC Code.] Incorrect wire size and / or wiring can cause low voltage damage, which is not covered by warranty.

NOTICE:

IF the wires have not been installed in THE CORRECT positions on the 4 position TERMINAL BLOCK, the interlock fuse internal to the can may blow immediately upon applying power to the system and nothing will work.

SURFACE AND PAD REQUIREMENTS:

1. Your new spa should be placed on a uniformly firm and level surface. Typically a concrete pad 4” thick is suitable. Alternatives are paving stones, concrete sidewalk blocks or a wooden deck. When your spa is filled it could weigh up to 2 1/2 Tons. An uneven or cracked concrete pad or other surface, the use of shims of any kind may cause the spa to buckle, distort or crack. If this being the case, the warranty on your spa will be void.

2. If your spa is located near sprinklers, adjust or cap them so as not to hit the siding of the spa.

  1. Balconies and decks must be constructed to current state and local codes and doors and gates should be self-closing and self-locking.
  1. It is the responsibility of the owner to provide clear access on all sides of the spa once it is set in place for ease in repair, otherwise, additional costs to service and repair the spa will be incurred.

Description and Uses of Operating Control

1. Warmer and Cooler Buttons

The spa’s thermostat is to provide you with optimum control of the spa water temperature. This temperature set point can be adjusted from 65 degrees F to 104 degrees F simply by pushing the warmer or cooler buttons. After you have set the desired water temperature the read out will return to the actual spa water temperature. In conjunction with setting the temperature, these two buttons are used in changing the filter cycles. (See “Changing the Filter Cycles” section.)

2. Jets 1 Button

When pressed it will engage the pump. The pump sequence is low speed, high speed, off. If the pump is left on it will automatically turn itself off after 20 minutes. If your system has two water pumps the heater will not come on while both are in high speed mode.

NOTE: If the low speed pump is running and the heater indicator light is off, the system is in a filter mode. If the pump is placed on high speed during a filter cycle that filter cycle will be canceled and the spa will not filter until the next scheduled cycle.

3. Air Button

The button designated AIR turns on and off the air blower. The air blower when manually pressed and left on will automatically turn itself off after 20 minutes. The air blower will turn on for 30 seconds at the beginning of each filter cycle. This assures clean water throughout the spa by stirring up particles settled in the spa.

4. Light Button

The light button turns the light on and off. The light when left on will automatically turn of after 1 hour.

5. Jets 2 Button

When pressed it will engage the 2nd pump. The pump sequence is low speed, high speed, off. If the pump is left on it will automatically turn itself off after 20 minutes.

Most Common Operator Error,

Water Pump is Air Locked

After filling your spa with water.

After filling the spa, always purge the water piping system of air. Make Sure The Pump Is Off.

Hook up hose to and open the hose bib next to the equipment pack until all the air is removed and the water begins to flow. Close the hose bib. (Sometimes this may take 2 or 3 tries)

Now you may turn the pump on high speed. Water should begin flowing from the water jets. If this does not occur turn off the pump and start again. This is known as an air lock.

(Do not operate the pump dry or seal damage will result.)

Heater Pressure Switch

This feature has been installed to prevent dry fire of the heater. (Operating the heater without water running past it).

This pressure switch is factory set to 2 PSI to allow operation on both low and high-speed pump. If your filter is excessively dirty or plugged it will restrict water flow and will not allow the pressure switch to operate properly giving an –03 indication on your digital topside read out. Always keep your filter clean.

Initial Start Up and Operating Procedure

CAUTION

BEFORE PERFORMING THE OPERATIONS INTHIS SECTION, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE PREVIOUS INSTRUCTIONS SET FORTH, IN THIS MANUAL. MAKE SURE THE SPA HAS BEEN INSTALLED CORRECTLY, INCLUDING ELECTRICAL WIRING CONNECTIONS AS SPECIFIED IN PREVIOUS SECTIONS.

CAUTION:DO NOT OPERATE THE SPA UNLESS IT IS FILLED TO THE APPROPRIATE LEVEL.

After you have read and completed the installation in accordance with procedures set forth in this manual, spa start up procedures may be started. Turn off the main circuit breaker to ensure no electrical power is applied to the spa. Fill spa with water to a level of approximately the middle of the skimmer openings and higher than all jets. Open any shut off valves (gate valves by pulling the handle out) on suction and return lines to spa allowing water to fill the pump(s).

Turn on electrical power by setting the main circuit breaker to on. (Whether 110 volt or 220 volt connection systems)

The LX 10, 1500 and 2500 Spa Controls have automatic functions that operate upon start up and normal operation to protect the system. Upon power up, the read out will display a three-digit software release. This number will then change to “888” while the system is booting up. Also during the boot up (start up) all of the indicator l.e.d. lights should be lit.

At the end of the boot up, the water temperature will be displayed. If the temperature is below 95 degrees F, the low speed pump and the heater will turn on until the temperature rises to the preset 95 degrees F. Approximately two minutes after the system has been initially powered up, the first filtration cycle will begin to operate. Any time after the boot up, you will be able to change the filter cycle and reset your temperature set point.

If you do not have water coming out of your water jets after start up or when you turn your water pump on to low or high speed, your pump is full of air. (Air Locked) See page 10 to clear the air lock.

OPERATION OF YOUR SPA

The Top Side Control automatically defaults to the start up mode and standardmaintenance mode F1 anytime there is a power interruption to the spa, whether it be from turning the main electrical panel off then on, or if there is a power outage for a short period of time. The spa controls have an internal 24-hour clock that is accurate to "plus orminus" 2-5 minutes per day due to voltage fluctuations in your area. It starts its 24-hour cycle period when the power comes back on or is turned on for the first time. To adjust this cycle for the desired filtering time turn the power off, count to ten, and then turn the power back on or push the warmer, cooler arrows and jets 1 button simultaneously. For example: Turn on the power at 6 PM, the next 24-hr period starts at 6 PM the next day and so on.

There are 6 modes to choose from for filtering and heating, 2 standard modes, mode F1 & mode F2, and 4 economy modes, mode F3, mode F4, mode F5, & mode F6. (Please chose the one that will be the best for you.) To activate the "Mode Choice" program: Please press both the up & down arrows simultaneously for 3 seconds. Mode F1 will appear; you can now adjust with the up or down arrow to move from one mode to another.

VERY IMPORTANT

Standard Modes maintain the temperature set at all times and your spa is ready to use 24 hours a day. Economy modes only heat during the filtering cycles and will not heat at any other time. You will need to switch the spa back to a standard mode when using the spa to maintain heat during your use time. After you are done using the spa you can switch it back to an economy mode. If any of the filtering cycles are interrupted because of use of the spa, that filtering cycle will be suspended until the next cycle begins. Remember that an interruption of electrical power to the spa automatically sets the spa to start in mode F1 and resets the internal 24-hour clock to the new start time when the power returns to the spa.

CHANGING FILTERING CYCLES ON LX CONTROLS

FILTRATION

Proper filtration is an important key to maintaining the clarity of your spa’s water. The filter system is designed for unsurpassed effectiveness at removing debris and suspensions from the water anytime the water is circulating.
