Wiltshire Creative has been created from the three Salisbury arts organisations receiving Arts Council NPO funding with the goal of building on the success of the individual organisations to offer an increased range of performances and activities to the people of Salisbury, Wiltshire and beyond.

The Technician works as part of the Technical Department providing technical support in all areas of Wiltshire Creative’s work across two sites: Salisbury Playhouse and Salisbury Arts Centre and at other venues where required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

These responsibilities involve a number of key activities as outlined below:

Departmental

·  To assist the Technical Manager and Senior Technicians as required

·  To support the Technical Manager and Senior Technicians in the effective management of all technical areas.

·  To take an active role in the maintenance of the company’s technical equipment including regular PAT testing

·  To attend staff meetings as required

·  To participate in the technical department’s administrative and HR systems, as required

·  To ensure the smooth running, as directed by the Technical Manager, of all technical aspects of the organisation’s day to day operation.

Production

·  To undertake any technical work related to productions, as directed by the Technical Manager or Production and Technical Director, including fitting up and getting out scenery and rigging, focusing and programming lighting, sound and video equipment.

·  Show duties: include operating sound, lighting, counterweight flying or work on stage as required.

·  To furnish rehearsals with appropriate lighting/sound/scenery.

·  To support creative teams for all productions presented by Wiltshire Creative

·  To be prepared to create lighting / sound / projection designs for in-house productions if required

Statutory Requirements

·  To work with all staff to ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures and statutory regulations

·  To keep up to date with changes in legislation and industry best practice.

General

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION

Essential

·  A minimum of one years’ experience as a Stage Technician, preferably in a producing theatre

·  A broad based knowledge and practice in all technical areas including lighting, sound, staging, rigging and counterweight flying.

·  Experience of maintaining technical equipment including PAT testing

·  Experience of manual handling and lifting

·  A good team worker, committed and self-motivated

·  A willingness to learn new skills and work in all technical areas

·  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

·  Basic stage carpentry skills and working experience of scenic fit ups

·  The ability to remain calm, positive and professional when working under pressure

·  The ability to work on your own and to solve problems

·  Awareness of Health and Safety practice and procedures

·  Flexible approach to working and the ability to work unsocial hours

·  Commitment to achieving high standards with the resources available

Desirable

·  Education to NVQ Level or equivalent in a relevant subject

·  Experience of working in a receiving venue

·  Experience of lighting and sound design

·  Basic IT skills including Microsoft Office

·  Knowledge of building management systems such as heating, lighting, air handling and fire alarms

·  Experience of touring and presenting work in non-conventional performance spaces

·  Full clean driving licence

·  Range of vocational training relevant to this post such as First Aid, Tallescope, PAT testing, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, Use of Ladders, Rope Access, Manual Handling, Rigging

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

·  Salary: £20,000.00pa.

·  Hours: Annualised up to 44 hours per week on a rota basis

·  Holiday: 240 hours (32 days) including public holidays and rising in line

with length of service

·  Term: Permanent contract subject to probationary period of three

months.

·  Pension: Wiltshire Creative offers a pension scheme through People’s Pension, whereby contributions will be deducted from salary and is currently matched by Wiltshire Creative up to 1.5% of salary.

Wiltshire Creative is legally obliged to auto-enrol all eligible employees into this scheme after three months’ employment, although the employee has the right to ‘opt out’.
