OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
MRS. CHUDOBA
GRADE ONE
Thank you for attending Open House. It was very enjoyable talking with both former and new families.
.
Please send in any empty plastic frosting containers that you would otherwise throw away. They make for great storage of bulletin board borders. Thanks for your help!
The children were very well prepared to make their 911 phone calls. Thank you for practicing with them. They also had a chance to squirt the fire hose, climb and crawl out of the Smokey House, and were shown firefighter gear. We are very fortunate to have firefighters that are dedicated enough to volunteer many, many hours to keep our children safe. Please thank those men and women if you get a chance, as many of them take vacation time from their jobs to volunteer at our school.
There will be no school Monday, October 9due to Columbus /Indigenous People Day.
If you were not able to sign up for the November parent-teacher conferences at Open House, please call the office to schedule an appointment (542-5050).
On Tuesday, October 31 we will be having a Halloween Parade. Sometime between 1:00-1:15 we will march out of the front of the school, down Bloomingdale and through Russell Park. We would love to see your smiling faces as we proudly parade through town. In the case of inclement weather, we will parade through the school.
Please have your child bring his/her costume that day. No toy weapons of any kind will be allowed. We will have a regular working day up until the parade time. Thank you to the parents who signed up to bring party goods and goodies! I will be sending reminder notes.Approved volunteersare welcome to attend from 12:15-1:00 and join us on the parade. (Please let me know if you need an approval application, I will send it home.)
Please review your child’s behavior report every weekend. Discuss the problems and praise the successes!! Return the signed sheets on Mondays, please.
Please be sure your child completes the homework. If your child does not bring home an additional paper or book, the items from the Homework Policy still apply: read a book (one sent from school or one from home), and practice the Dolch vocabulary words that I will be sending home shortly. If there is an occasional instance when your child cannot complete the assignment on time, please send a note and he/she will receive an extra day.
If your child is absent, he/she has 5 days to turn in the missed work.
Any paper brought home that has T is one in which we have done togetheras a class. I did not correct it individually.
I do not grade the math homework, but I do look at each one to check for doneness and accuracy.
There will be times that somereading or math pages will come home unfinished. If it doesn’t say ‘please do’, ‘please fix’, ‘please finish’, ‘incomplete’ or have a date from your child’s absence, then your child does not have to complete it. Many children take home extra papers from the recycle bin to use however they wish.
Poetry binders will go home weekly or biweekly. Please read the new poems with your child and discuss the highlighted skills/rhyming words. Sign and date the front sheet and return it to school the following day.
The school-wide reading challenge has begun. Please record ANY books that you have read to your child or your child has read to you beginning in October. In the case of chapter books, each chapter counts as one book.
If you have any questions or concerns, please write a note, email me at or call me at 542-5050 x3113
