Recipe for yummy Earth
Ingredients14 marshmallows
1 red or yellow glacé cherry
1 tablespoon butter
2 cups rice breakfast cereal (such as Kellogg’s Rice Bubbles)
1 bottle chocolate topping (the sort that goes hard on ice cream, such as Cottee’s Ice Magic
a pot for cooking on the stove (with parent supervision)
serrated knife (with parent supervision)
plate.
Instructions
1.First make the inner and outer cores. Take one of the marshmallows and use a knife to poke a hole in the middle of it.
2.Insert the cherry into the middle of one of the marshmallows. Fold the marshmallow around the cherry so it completely surrounds the cherry. (The cherry is the inner core of the Earth and the marshmallow is now the outer core.) Set aside.
3.To make the mantle you must have an adult to help you.
Put the butter in a pot and melt the butter on a low heat. Add the remaining marshmallows and stir till they are melted. Remove from heat and stir in the rice cereal. It is important to leave it to cool for five minutes.
4.Spread the rice and marshmallow mixture on a plate. Put the ‘core’ in the centre and roll the mixture around it till it forms a firm ball.
5.Leave the ball (your Earth) on the plate and chill in the freezer for about 30 minutes.
6.To make the crust of the Earth, take the plate and ball out of the freezer and pour the chocolate topping over it. Make sure all the ball is covered in chocolate. Wait till the chocolate hardens.
The result
1.Use a serrated knife to cut your Earth in half. Can you see all the layers? You now have the crust, the mantle, and the inner and outer cores of the Earth.
2.Eat the Earth!
