POSTGAME QUOTES

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 44, Central Arkansas 62

Saturday, March 11, 2017 | Merrell Center | Katy, Texas

Southland Conference Tournament | Semifinals

HEAD COACH ROYCE CHADWICK

Overall thoughts…

It was a tough out today. We played well and never quit, but the early run by Central Arkansas is what did us in. I’m extremely proud of our players and where they ended up today. Our band and our fans were amazing in the stands, that it almost felt like a home game.

On fighting back from the run…

We told our team that, to win a championship, you have to do the little things. Your response to the bad things that come your way dictates your success. Their run at the start of the game was the margin. I thought we bounced back all night long. It was a character check, and our players continued to bounce back. They never quit."

What he told his players at the half…

I told them three words – Ready. Set. Go. We have good players. Sometimes when they shoot a shot and miss, they think they let everyone down. They’re such good kids that they get nervous about letting down their teammates and coaches. They sometimes shy away from shooting then. We don’t want them to play that way. We want them to show resiliency. We told them let’s go play in the second half.

On the senior class…

I believe that anytime you take over something, you want to leave it better than you found it. They can feel confident that they are leaving this program in a better place. This group was a part of over 20 school records. They'll always be a part of our family. These young ladies came what we brought them here to do and I'm proud of what they've accomplished.

They’re good people. They have participated in community service, guided our team and graduated. They are fantastic individuals, and I can’t want to get a text message next year saying they want me to read something to the team.

On playing on the Island…

I thank God for giving me the opportunity to play here. I want to thank coach Chadwick and everyone. It’s been an amazing five years. I have no regrets and that’s something I’m very proud of.

On playing on the Island…

I thank the coaches for believing in us and giving us the chance to change this program. They let us show what we could do on and off the court. They challenged us, and helped us grow everyday. It was a lot of fun to fight with our teammates in every practice and every game.
