Review Chapter 3
Tell how many solutions then solve using graphing, substitution, or elimination. Test your results.
1. y = 3x 2. x + y = 4 3. x + y = 2 4. y – 2x = -5
2y = 6x x – y = 2 y = 2x + 5 y – x = 3
5. 2x – y = -8 6. x + y = 2 7. 2x – y – z = 15 8. 3c + 5v + 4z = 6
2x + y = 4 3x – 2y = 6 4x + 5y + 2z = 10 -2c – 5v – 4z = -5
-x – 4y + 3z = -20 -6c + 2v + 4z = 0
Solve the following using linear systems. Show all equations. Show all work
9. You work at a grocery store. Your hourly wage is greater after 6:00 pm than it is during the day. One week you work 20 daytime hours and 20 evening hours and earn $280. Another week you work 30 daytime hours and 12 evening hours and earn a total of $276. What is your daytime rate? What is your evening rate?
10. A second-run movie theater sells matinee tickets for $4 on weekdays before 6 pm. The theater sells regular tickets for $6 on weekends and on weekdays after 6 pm. In one week, the theater earned $6000. The theater sold 890 more regular tickets than matinee tickets. How many of each type of ticket were sold?
Mixed nuts / Granola / Dried fruitYou / 1 lb / 0.5 lb / 1 lb
Jeff / 2 lb / 0.5 lb / 0.5 lb
Curtis / 1 lb / 2 lb / 0.5 lb
11. You and two friends buy snacks for a field trip. You spend a total of $8, Jeff spends $9, and Curtis spends $9. The table shows the amounts of mixed nuts, granola, and dried fruit that each person purchased. What is the price per pound of each type of snack?
12. At a pizza shop, two small pizzas, a liter of soda and a salad cost $14; one small pizza, a liter of soda, and three salads cost $15; and three small pizzas and a liter of soda cost $16. What is the cost of one small pizza? Of one liter of soda? Of one salad?
Graph the inequalities
13. y ≤ 2 14. x ≥ 0 15. –x + y ≤ 2
x ≥ 3 y ≥ 0 x ≥ 0
2x + 4y ≤ 4 y ≤ 4
Is the ordered pair a solution for the system of equations?
16. x + y = 2 17. 10x + 13y = -34
x – y = 0 -15x – 17y = 56
(-1, 1) (-6, 2)
