The Innovator System’s factory default setting is in an in-band mode. After programming the telephone switch, confirm the switch type with the Innovator in the PBX Parameter selection box in the Initial Setup section of this manual.
Follow the switch programming instructions provided here for your respective switch. Verify that you are following instructions for API integrated programming or In-Band switch programming.
NOTE: After any switch programming, reset the switch to ensure changes take effect.
DBS Series API Integration Programming
NOTE: CPC VERSIONS SUPPORTED - CPC-AII & B - 9.22 ; EX-2.32
Install API Card. Refer to switch’s manual.
In order to run API mode, follow instructions according to programming for your respective switch.
Set the API slot assignment.
For the DBS 824:
Press FF1
Dial 2# 1# 19#
Enter 1STExtensionPort # Innovator voice mail is installed on
For the DBS 40/72/96:
Press FF1
Dial 2# 1# 20#
Enter Voice Mail AEC slot assignment followed by the #.
Set AEC/SLT disconnect timer.
For the DBS 824:
Press FF1

For the DBS 40/72/96:

Enable AEC/SLT disconnect.

Press Hold to go to next port number using 42-56
Note: It is imperative that all ports used be sequential.
Requires power reset after terminal change.
Put the voicemail extension ports in a Hunt Group.
Dial FF4
Enter 3# (Hunt Group Number)# 1#
Enter the Pilot number #
Dial 0# for Terminal Hunting
Press # 2 times
Enter VM pilot number # as transfer extension
Enter VM extension # from low to high
Hit the # key after each entry
Set permanent forwarding for each extension.

Enter the type of forwarding followed by the #
Enter voicemail pilot number followed by the # sign
Repeat steps for each extension port
Programming the voice mail callback key
This is done on the 576 Series API Integrated systems only.
Press FF4 0.
Enter 1st BSSC/C of the phone to be programmed.
Press 0, then the FF two digit key number to be programmed.
Press Hold 76, then Voice Mail Pilot Number.
Press Hold to advance to the next port.

Press Conf’ to clear the FF key.

Programming the voice mail transfer key
Press FF5.
Enter 1st port of the phone to be programmed.
Enter the FF key number to be programmed.
Press Conf to clear FF key
Press Prog Auto Auto Voice Mail Pilot Number FF12.
Press Hold to advance to next port.
Note: For In-Band integrated Innovator voice mail, use *4 plus the extension number to light the message waiting light and *5 plus the extension number to cancel the message light. This must be done from the same port.
576 API Integration Programming
NOTE: CPC VERSION 3.6 – 4.9
- Install API card with an AEC in the very next free slot, to the right of the API card.
- Program free slot card type for API as (81 for 4 port)…etc.

- By assigning a card type for the API, the next slot is automatically configured.
- Connect the analog ports to the voice mail. REMEMBER the ports will start from the bottom and go up on the AEC.
- Go into programming to set API parameters.
- Program API number = 1
FF7 2 (BSS) 00 HOLD (0-6) HOLD
- Program API virtual extension numbers. Example (501-504)
FF7 2 (BSS) 01 (nn) 00 HOLD (0-9999) HOLD
- Program voice mail hunt group to include the virtual API extension numbers.

Note: If using Voice Mail Callback Key, program Hunt Mode as Circular hunting. - To utilize the ‘Callback’ feature of the Innovator perform these timer changes:
- Change the System Transfer Recall Start Timer to ‘No Recall’

1. Install API card in any free slot 1-5 or in special slot if using SAPI card.
2. Program free slot card type for API as type 79.

3. Install an AEC card in any free slot or in special slot if using SAEC card.
4. Program free slot card type for AEC as type 31 or 32.

5. Assign AEC ports a phone type in FF3 usually (51). Depends on API unit number in FF7 2.

6. Assign AEC ports in order of connection to voice boards on Innovator.(ex 1-1, 2-2,3-3,4-4 etc.)

7. Assign extension numbers to AEC ports. These numbers will automatically copy to virtual API extension numbers.

8. Program API unit number Usually 51.

9. Program voice mail hunt group to include the virtual API extension numbers.
