Newsletter – Summer 2018

Dear Member,

It does not seem possible that we are now half way through another season in which some events so far have, unfortunately, been rather poorly supported.

Our first event was once again the Easter Show at Lake Farm. This, as in previous years, proved very popular but the weather was atrocious with continual rain all day. However, this did not deter the many competitors who braved the horrendous conditions. Our judge, David Sykes, managed to keep everyone’s spirits high with his humourous remarks!!

The first of our Spider Rides was to The Old Brickworks at Brading. Only 5 riders took part in the ride but several turned up to take advantage of the opportunity to do the clear round jumping. Many thanks to Rachel Birchenough for making everyone so welcome.

Only 3 riders took part in the Spider Ride to Froghill and, again, some came along just for the clear round jumping. This was very disappointing but might have been due to the fact that we clashed with Walk the Wight. We wont make that mistake again!! Many thanks to Mandy Steen for making all the facilities at Froghill available to us.

The Spring Show was well supported but entries were slightly down on last year. Once again, we had lovely weather and the judges commented on how much they had enjoyed their day. John and Wendy Binsley very kindly offered to run showjumping classes but, unfortunately, there was only one entry. We will try this again at the Autumn Show in the hope that there will be more support.

Entries were a little disappointing for the Dressage at Stone Farm and the hot weather may have put some competitors off.

We have an addition to our calendar on 5th August when we are holding a Showjumping / Mounted Games Day at Kingates EC. The schedule is attached / enclosed together with schedules for the Dressage & Combined Training and Autumn Show.

That’s all the news for now but please keep your eye on the Livestock Columnin the County Press, the Society’s website and I.W. Horse Community on Facebook for any changes or updates.
