TEAS (The Test of Essential Academic Skills)

What is the TEAS?

It is a computer-based multiple-choice exam that covers the following material:

  • Reading
  • Math
  • Science
  • English

How can I prepare for the TEAS?

  • Visit the Henry Madden Library (on campus) and check out theStudyManualfor the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)on hold at the 1st floor main circulation desk. It can be checked out 1day at a time only.
  • You can purchase a book of practice tests in the Reference section in the Kennel Bookstore (on campus).
  • TEAS Prep products are also available for purchase at: ATI Test Prep

How will the TEAS be used as an admission criterion?

Students must submit results from the TEAS by the date specified on the Nursing website. Students must earn a 75% or higher on the TEAS, in conjunction with having a 3.0 or higher overall GPA and a 3.0 or higher prerequisite GPA, to be considered eligible for admission.

Can I take the TEAS more than once?

You can only take the TEAS a maximum of 3 times.

Students will be allowed to take the TEAS once more, beyond the 3 attempts, only after 5 years have passed from their first attempt. You can only have 3 valid tests at one time. Each time one test expires, opens you up to taking the test one more time.

How do I register for the TEAS?

You must create an account by visiting: ATI Testing

Students in the Fresno area can register to take the exam through our Testing Office on campus. You must register at least 1 week in advance with the Testing Office: they can be reached at (559) 278-2457. The TEAS is only offered on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If you are a Fresno State student, be sure to notify the Testing office that you are a Fresno State student when you register.

Students outside the Fresno area can visit ATI Testing to search for locations in your area.

How much does it cost to take the TEAS?

The test fee is $55.00* (paid by credit card only [includes debit cards] on the day of the test) AND the sitting fee is $40.00* (to be paid by money orderonly). If you have your scores sent anywhere other than Fresno State, you will be charged an extra $27.00* per school on your credit card.

FRESNO STATE STUDENTS: If you are a Fresno State student with a Fresno State ID, the first sitting fee is free. Make sure that you tell the Testing office when making your appointment, that you are a Fresno State student and if it is your first, second, or third time taking the exam. After the first sitting, you will be charged the $40.00 sitting fee AND the $45.00 test fee for any subsequent attempts.

What do I need to bring to take the TEAS?

Students need to bring a photo ID, credit card and money order. Anyone without a proper ID will not be allowed to test. Calculators are not permitted. Students will not be allowed to exit the testing room during the test. NO EXCEPTIONS.

How long will it take for me to get my TEAS scores?

Students testing at Fresno State will receive their scores immediately after the examination.

What is the deadline for submitting my score?

Students can only submit TEAS scores during the admission cycle for which they have applied. Visit the School of NursingWebsite for the deadline to submit your score. We are not responsible for lost scores if you submit them before the admission cycle.

You can only submit your final score by uploading it to your NursingCAS application.
