HURLING

The junior hurlers picked up another brace of points in the J.J. Kavanagh & Sons Junior Hurling League when overcoming Barrow Rangers in the Polo Grounds, Jenkinstown on Friday evening last. The locals enjoyed a great start with 1-3 on the score board without reply. Though Barrow Rangers responded well with a goal and two points, Conahy were able to regroup and with some well taken scores, they managed to lead by 2-9 to 1-6 at half-time. The Conahy defence was to the fore in the second half, restricting the visitors’ attack to fewer scores while the Conahy attack continued to add points to their tally. In the end, the locals deservedly secured their third league win on a 2-20 to 2-9 scoreline. The two sides will be meeting again in the near future in the final of the Paddy Cahill Cup.

The under-14 hurlers played out a thrilling draw with Emeralds in their opening match of the Roinn B league in Urlingford on Monday night last. The sides were level at 1-3 to 0-6 at half-time, with little between the sides. A goal from Mark Gunner was a key score for Conahy Shamrocks in the second half, with points from the same player, Oisín Cahill and Oisín O'Connor ensuring that the visitors left Urlingford with a share of the spoils, 3-5 to 1-11.

CAMOGIE

The under-16 camogie girls enjoyed a good win over St. Brigid’s (Ballycallan) in their fourth match of the Under-16 League. Victory was secured on a score line of 5-16 to 2-4, the team’s third victory from four games in the league.

Congratulations to Ellen Gunner who came 3rdin the Kilkenny Camogie Féile Skills and she will now go on to the Leinster Féile Skills Final in June.

NEW GYM

Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club has opened its new gym at the Polo Grounds, Jenkinstown. The facility is now open to Adult GAA Club Members and it is mandatory for anyone who wishes to use the gym to complete an induction prior to using the facilities. Conahy Shamrocks GAA Clubhouse continues to host a Progressive 25 Card Game each Sunday night. All are welcome to participate.

LOTTO RESULTS

The numbers in the recent Conahy Shamrocks GAA Club Lotto draw were 12, 35 and 39. There was no jackpot winners, so the consolation prize winners were Susan Griffith, Alice Hally, Jenny Lorimer & Mark Saunders, Ross & Margo Loyd, Linda Walsh and Michael Healy. The promoters’ prize winners wereNora Delaney, Teresa Dollard and Julie Jackman. This week’s jackpot now increases to €3,900.

LADIES CLUB

Conahy Ladies club are hoping to run a bus to the Bloom Flower festival on the Thursday of the June Bank Holiday weekend, if there is enough interest in doing so. Please contact Teresa on (087) 0551834 if you wish to travel.

The Ladies Club also recently secured €400 in funding through the Kilkenny County Council Amenity Grant Scheme. If you are interested in having a say in how this should be spent on flowers for the village, you are welcome to attend a gathering tonight (Wednesday) at 8.00 p.m. at Conahy Church Car Park.

This year’s Kilmacar Cemetery Mass will take place on Friday, 23rd June at 7.30 p.m. The Conahy Cemetery Mass will take place on Sunday, 25th June, at 11 a.m.

VINTAGE CLUB

"The Man who put the World on Wheels", a special visual talk on big screen by George Conn, will take place in Conahy Vintage Museum on Saturday, June17th, to celebrate 100 years of Ford Tractor. A barbecue will be held at 7.30 p.m. with the talk commencing at 8.30 p.m. There is free admission, with donations welcome in aid of Carlow-Kilkenny Homecare Team. COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP

Conahy Community Playgroup are holding a clothes collection fundraiser on tomorrow (Thursday), at 10.00 a.m. Clothes, belts, shoes, bags, towels, bed linen, etc., can be left into Conahy Community Hall from Monday, May 22nd. All funds raised will go towards the development of an outdoor play area for the playgroup. All support is welcome.
