Social Studies & Science
Mr. Perez
In Social Studies, last week, the students learned about different US regions. This week student will learn about two groups of people who first inhabited North America (the Inuit and the Kwakiutl). The students will identify where these cultures settled. They will be able to explain how location helped the Native Americans establish settlements, and utilize the resources available in their area to obtain food, clothing, and shelter. Mrs. Brown
We had a great time last week completing “get to know each other” activities, including a Bio-Glyph and a memory bag. The students were very thoughtful as they listened to one another share their precious stories, and I think we all learned a lot about each other. Hopefully this will help us work collaboratively with our upcoming activities this week and throughout the year.
This week we will begin the novel, The Sign of the Beaver. We will have a new set of vocabulary terms and a quiz over these words on Friday. We will investigate the novel through literature circles and literature stations. The students will also have a mentor sentence quiz every Friday. This sentence can be found in their ELA composition notebook. Please don’t hesitate to email me with any questions.
