PTO Minutes

Thursday October 10, 2013, 7:00 p.m.

Board Members Present: Robbin Gould, Janice Lea, Cathy Copenhaver, Erin Schofield, Grant Dilbert, Penelope Frigon, Laura Wolfrom

Meeting called to order at 7:04pm by Janice Lea (PTO President)

Introduction of Robin and Laura as they were not present last meeting

School Report:

·  New technology person and new 8th grade teacher

·  New website is up and running

o  Going to try and keep things updated and post pictures of events

o  Vikingtube is coming soon, Keith starting a tech club and their project will be to do video news (all about St V and St V students). They can restrict who sees the videos (parents only vs public). There will be a link to CAAN academy and send to certain students to watch.

·  Pet blessing last week, good turnout

·  Musical try outs coming up next week

·  Thank you to the PTO for funding the buses for field trips

·  10/25 first time 4th grade visits their adopted grandparents

·  Kindergarten is going to Shaw farms soon

·  Kindergarten has a curious kids programming starting soon (science club)

·  Living rosary 10/16

·  5th and 6th grade going to Camp Kern 10/21

·  Daily Bread Soup kitchen mission coming up

·  2nd grade Mother Nature program coming up

·  10/23 HSPT prep class starts for 8th graders

·  8th grade to camp kern 10/29

·  Halloween parade/parties on 10/31

·  Picture retake 10/25

Committee Updates:

·  Magazine sales (presented by Tammy Crowthers)

o  Sale down about 25% this year

o  Est profit about $15,000

o  Reminder: looking for someone to take over next year or learn the ropes next year

·  Market day (Janice lea)

o  Pick up is Thursday at ministry center

·  Boxtops (Kelly)

o  Approximately 17,000 labeled. Mrs Bantas clas won

o  Mrs Harpring had almost 100% participation

o  Great turn out this time

o  Possibly doing a map we can color in from where boxtops are sent from in the future as some family members are shipping them to our students (another fun activity to keep momentum going)

·  Scrips (Erin) – our first order from Tammy went well.

·  Kroger (Janice) – make sure St Veronica is stated on the bottom of the receipt

·  Monthly dinners (?) Marcos in August $110 brought in. Mrs Baker class won

o  Buffalo Wild Wings $150 brought in.

o  Next one is Quaker Steak on Monday

o  Bob Evans is 11/1

o  Sweet Frog 11/15

o  December is Smashburger

·  Spiritwear (?)

o  First order just went out. Problem with cinch saks

o  We made about $600

·  Spring Carnival (Janice)

o  We have a chair now (Shelly)

o  Scheduled for 4/6

·  Split the pot (Janice)

o  Jennifer is chairing

o  Flyers went home this week

o  Drawing will be held at quarter auction in May

o  There will be a link so you can download tickets as you need them

·  Quarter Auction (Janice)

o  Will occur in May and chair will start working on it after Halloween

·  Next year – St V Parent night

o  Has a chair now, going to have first meeting in November

Social Committee updates:

·  There will be a link to the flyer for Dad Lad event (cyclone game).

o  Older kids will have intermission games on the ice. Younger kids will have a special event also

·  Mother/daughter (11/16) flyer coming home next week $10 per person

·  Everybody counts (week of Feb. 24) will be sending out volunteer info first of the year.

Volunteering

·  Email went out to remind committee chairs to turn in names of everyone who volunteered so they are entered into drawing

·  Next meeting we will draw first winner of $250

·  Feb and May are last 2 drawings

Yearbook update: (DeeDee)

·  This year there is yearbooks elect who will take over next year

·  Using Pictavo again, just sign up then you can upload your photos. Make sure your photos go into the right folders

·  We want group pictures, pics of events

·  We don’t want close ups, sporting events that we don’t have,

·  Make sure pics are relevant

·  Dee Dee doesn’t accept pictures, it is the responsibility of everyone to upload their own

·  Each grade will have a room parent to be the point of contact to handle photos

·  Asking chairs of each committee to help track down photos of the event and get them uploaded

·  Should be coming out end of October

Finance update (Janice)

·  $67000 was budget-approved end of last year

Anything anyone want to bring up

·  Follow up on the fence around the playground to keep balls from getting away (butch looking into it)

·  Playground needs mulch, well below 3 inch limit (butch looking into it)

·  Feedback on the website – looks great

·  Are they going to offer training on ascend, (butch asking the company to come)

·  Suggested PTO make it more obvious what they support so parents are aware of what we do (ie: include note that PTO providing buses for field trip or whatever) so parents are more inclined to donate/support PTO
