  • Using the story of Room on the Broom and soft toys as stimulus and resource create a retelling of the story with the students using acting, dance/movement and singing/music to recreate it.
  • Students will also be learning about: turn taking; how to make an entrance and exit; how to use space for performance; How to be seen and heard; how to be still; how to story tell frequently working with the teacher in-role; how to play in a structured way with a storyline or the arrival of a problem to be overcome; how to make simple dance steps; how to explore simple Laban efforts - time, weight and direction; how to sing simple songs and learn simple actions; how to present simple ideas to an audience; puppetry and mask work may also play an important part.

Week 1

23/1/16 / Introduction to story and characters – using storytelling, movement, sound and attitude / Getting to know the story and characters. Developing storytelling skills, movement/dance skills, singing/sound skills and attitude in the work.
Week 2
30/1/16 / Reinforcing story and characters / Gaining confidence in the work and a better understanding of story and characters and teacher expectations.

Week 3

6/2/16 / Using the best work done so far start to think about how a performance can be created out of it.
Create a simple script, with teacher in role or as narrator and begin to introduce it to the children/CAS
Remember to include an element of storytelling/acting, movement or dance, singing and/or sound and showing a degree of attitude in the work. / Starting to work on script, finding out what characters they are and developing the work’
Learning about, and understanding exit and entrances, how to stay in character, how to hold yourself still and when to move, learning and remembering simple words and songs.

Week 4

13/2/16

/ Continue work on script and think about costumes and make up. Inform CAS/parents of any costume required
Keep it simple and remember to praise. Discard anything that is not working. / Focus on learning through repetition by running through script a couple of times. Keeping it fun

Week 5

20/2/16

/ Dress rehearsal day. Remember to reinforce entrances etc, Starting positions and end bows. / Fun focus on performance and dealing with excitement. Creating the best work they can. Performance to main school students.

Week 6

27/2/16 / Show day
Prepare students and rehearse for a performance in final 15 minutes of session / Preparing for performance and performing to family and friends and main school students
