SENIORS

·  Important meeting of Senior Council today in Mrs. Glass’s room right after school.

·  Herff Jones will be on campus to take orders for graduation materials on

§  Thursday and Friday during both lunches

§  Saturday from 9am until noon in Mrs. Drees’ room – 6-112

·  Senior t-shirts are on sale. The prices are $12 for t-shirt and $25 for sweatshirt/hoodie. Deadline for this first order is tomorrow. (This date will be strictly enforced.) We will be taking orders later in the year but the prices will be higher. See Mrs. Glass or Mrs. Drees to purchase your t-shirt.

JUNIORS

·  There will be a Junior class meeting after school on Thursday in Mr. Glass’s room, 6-212 to discuss homecoming. We will be signing up for powderpuff and float building so you need to be in attendance. No early sign ups will be accepted.

SOPHOMORES

CLUBS

·  Art/Photography club will meet today at 2:30 in the art room.

·  Hi-Q will meet on Friday, September 21.

·  Listen for details regarding the “Big Red Out Event” – AHA and THS will be supporting this event together.

Watch for details in the cafeteria during your lunch.

·  The first meeting of the Tavares High Astronomy Club will be today at 2:30 pm. The meeting will take place in Mr. Moore’s room, Building 2, Room 204. Anyone that is interested in exploring the wonders of the universe is welcome to attend. Snacks will be provided.

·  The first Tavares FFA Chapter meeting will be this Tuesday at 2:30 pm in Mrs. Holland’s room. All FFA members should attend.

·  HOSA's first bracelet meeting will be Wednesday in Mrs. Abeele’s room after school. We will be training members, so this meeting is highly important.

ATHLETICS

·  Boys soccer will begin conditioning today. All boys who have completed the required paperwork should meet on the track at 3:00.

·  Baseball players who have turned in all paperwork should meet at the field today for conditioning.

1984 - Gordon P. Getty was named the richest person in the U.S. His fortune was $4.1 billion.

1984 - Reggie Jackson hit his 500th career home run. It was exactly 17 years from the day he hit his first major league home run.

1988 - Lt. Gen. Prosper Avril declared himself president of Haiti after President Henri Hamphy was ousted.

1991 - The United Nations General Assembly opened its 46th session. The new members were Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, North and South Korea, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.

1992 - Lawrence Walsh called a halt to his probe of the Iran-Contra scandal. The investigation had lasted 5 1/2 years.

1995 - Hong Kong held its last legislative election before being taken over by China in 1997.
