· Know the process and be able to explain it consistently
· Be there when you say you’ll be there
· Return phone calls
· Seek to understand what the family situation is and what they need
1st Meeting:
· Establish trust
· You are there to help them
· You are able to assist with paperwork and organizing documents
· Give them information about the process
· Answer questions about the process
· Evaluate their case and let them know who possibly qualifies
***Let the parent know that you do NOT decide who gets and doesn’t get Medicaid/CHIP – that Department of Workforce Services determines eligibility***
By the end of the 1st Meeting:
· Explain and give them a list of the needed documentation for the application
· Make appointment to help fill out the application
· Get demographic information – the parent’s address and phone number
· Have the parent sign the 114 Form allowing for you to see their information in the application and approval process
Address Concerns about the Social Security Numbers
Answer questions about the breach and current security of information
Describe the breach and what the DWS and DOH are doing in response to the breach

2nd Meeting
· Gather all the documents
· Fill out application with parent
· Make copies of all required documents
o Except for Children’s Identification(s) and out-of-state birth certificates – which have to be presented to DWS to verify the authenticity

Renewal Process:
DWS sends renewal information to the parents via mail or e-mail
If parents ask for assistance, be able to help them with the renewal process
Understand and be able to explain the benefits for families with mixed immigration status.
To be eligible for Medicaid, children will need to be:
· A United States Citizen, or
· Legal Resident for 5 years
