Catalog description: (3-3-0) Topics include combinational/sequential logic, multi-level combinational logic, registers, counters, programmable logic arrays, memory unit, arithmetic logic design, and computer organization. Laboratory experiments involving digital logic circuit design of combinational and sequential circuits emphasizing the use of small and medium scale-integrated circuits.

Textbook: Digital Logic Circuit Analysis & Design by Victor P. Nelson, H. Troy Nagle, Bill D. Carroll, and J. David Irwin (Prentice Hall); LogicWorks 4: Interactive Circuit Design Software for Windows (Addison Wesley).

Course prerequisites: CS 2310, CS 2401 and MATH 2305.

Topic prerequisites: Basic notions of binary number system, Boolean algebra, and mathematical functions.

Course grade: The course average is determined by quizzes (10%), two major tests (50%), and a comprehensive final exam (30%, Monday December 10, 2001 10:00 am - 12:30 pm), lab assignments and reports (10%). The course grade is determined by the standard college formula based on the course average: "A" (90-100), "B" (80-89), "C" (70-79), "D" (60-69), or "F" (0-59). Major tests are in-class, and closed book. Test date will be announced at least one week in advance. There are no makeup tests and labs. The student must have a passing average (60+) on both tests and labsto pass this course, otherwise he or she should receive at best a "D".

Last day to drop: October 25, 2001.

Statement on reasonable accommodations: UHD adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines with respect to providing reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities. Students with disabilities should be notified to register with Disabled Student Services and contact the instructor in a timely manner to arrange for appropriate accommodations.

Labs:

  1. There are approximately 7 to 8 labs and 1 or 2 projects. Each lab assignment consists of exercises and questions.
  2. You will be provided with a proto-board to conduct your experiments. It is your responsibility to maintain it in a condition as when you receive it.
  3. Lab assignments will be graded at the end of each lab session. It is your responsibility to show you results and answers for each lab to your instructor. There are no make up labs.
