Membership update – Annie

  • 252! On track to blow 300 member goal out of the water

Treasurer update – Marcia

  • We have $4,730
  • March income: $980 (primarily memberships & Massanutten passes)
  • March expenses: $413 (primarily sending Travis to DC bike conference)

Weekly Ride & Work Schedule – weekly rides are underway!

  • Monday: Social Mtn Bike Rides – 5:30 – rotating among Hillendale/ Narrowback/Masanutten/Mud Pond - contact Kari or Scott
  • Tuesday: Women’s Mountain Bike Ride! 5:30 – locations TBD – first Tuesday of month is a women’s beginner ride
  • Tuesday Night Fast Road Ride – 5:30 from SBC
  • Wednesday: Social Road Ride– 5:15 sharp from Harrisonburg High
  • Thursday: Trail Work at Hillendale for month of April
  • ThursdayTempo Road Ride (not as hard as Tuesday) – 5:30 SBC
  • Saturday: Trail Work at Hillendale in am; sometimes work on the Hillendale pump track Saturday afternoon (check SVBC website)
  • Sunday: Casual road rides: from Bridgewater (Rich); or Harrisonburg (10 am from Carl’s house)

Event Recaps:

Harri-Roubaix- had over 100 participants—Kyle and Carpenter’s favorite event of the year – dorky pro riders battling at the front; cool casual riders having fun at the back; awesome potluck food – thanks to everyone who participated!!

Discussion items & upcoming events:

SVBC Board

  • will meet every month before the SVBC social
  • plans to purchase software to help with membership, trail passes, etc.
  • plans to get more involved with kid-centered activities, yay!

GeorgeWashingtonNational Forest

  • New draft plan will be released in a month (in the works for years and years)
  • Spring Gobbler hunting season is here, as well as prime trout fishing – woods will have lots of people in them

Trail Work Update

  • Thursdays at Hillendale in April (5pm till dark)
  • March was at Massanutten  almost finished reroute of Gravity Monkey a contour trail paralleling road, so now there is an all-dirt loop option coming from the south—3 or 4 more days until perfected
  • DCR Grant Phase 2 – still waiting to hear on initial submission; still opportunities for volunteers

Earth Day Trash Pick-up – Saturday, April 16 (rescheduled to April 30 due to torrential downpour)

  • 9 am Dog Graveyard on Tillman Road, in GeorgeWashingtonNational Forest
  • Pick up trash along 7 miles of Tillman, we’ve done this for years- talk to Marcia or Marshall

May is Bike Month!

  • Lara Mack, fearless Bike Month leader and organizer extraordinaire, is leaving Harrisonburg May 1, oh no!! Thanks for everything, Lara.
  • Bike Month events include: Bike commuter workshop to help prepare folks for May 20 Bike to Work Day; alleycat; ride of silence; etc.
  • Please help post signs!! They’ll be attached to SVBC emails

SVBC Bike Rack Grant Program – Thomas Jenkins

  • SVBC will be awarding 5 grants to 5 different business for bike racks!
  • This is the first time SVBC has been on the awarding end of the grant business-exciting
  • Application will be simple, probably a one-pager, and SVBC will pay for (at least) 50% of cost and installation
  • Encourage businesses you know to apply!

Bicycle and Pedestrian Subcommittee (of City of Harrisonburg)

  • 5 person citizen group; meets once a month
  • With Lara Mack leaving town, a spot is opening up
  • Talk to Thomas if you’d like to apply

Chicago Avenue Study Meeting – April 19

  • 6pm, ParkViewMennoniteChurch
  • Provide your input to help City of Harrisonburg in a study of Chicago Ave, Mt. Clinton Pike, Parkwood Dr & parts of Park Road
