Climate Action

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Institute for Sustainable Solutions’ Sustainability Internship Program.This application will be used to select internships supported by the Institute for Sustainable Solutions (ISS) for this academic year. If your internship is selected for funding, you will be notified and sent additional information for recruiting and filling the position.If you have any questions, please contact Mary Vance, career counselor, sustainability focus: ; 503-725-4972.This application should take you approximately 30–45 minutes to complete. Selection criteria:Your internship request will be reviewed and finalists will be identified typically within 2-3 weeks of submission.If your internship proposal is selected as a finalist, you’ll be contacted by a staff member from ISS.Here is a list of the criteria that will be used to evaluate your internship.

SUPERVISION INFORMATION

Internship supervisor: We consider internship supervisors to be educators and mentors. The internship supervisor is responsible for day-to-day direction on internship tasks and responsibilities; providing regular communication and work performance feedback to the intern; and, making an intentional effort to mentor the student by offering them professional advice and connecting them with relevant contacts.

The internship supervisor is also responsible for:

  1. Meeting with the student to discuss expectations and learning outcomes.
  2. Working with the student to complete the learning agreement.
  3. Providing an orientation to the organization.
  4. Completing mid-term and final internship evaluations.
  5. Making the university representative aware of any problems that arise during the internship and working collaboratively toward resolution.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

The internship should provide the student with an opportunity to develop relevant skills, knowledge, and experience, and facilitate professional growth and advancement. Routine administrative tasks should be no more than 20 percent of the intern’s duties. In addition to regular duties and responsibilities, it is ideal if there are at least one or more specific projects that will be completed during the course of the internship.

Duration of internship: Fall, winter, and/or spring terms: (All internships are 12 hours per week; 11 weeks per term for a total of 132 hours per term). Summer term interns may work up to 24 hours per week; summer requires another application. (Note: Interns are compensated by the term and may take breaks between terms.
