Job Description

PURPOSE

As a member of the Oceania team, the Wildlife Campaigner will focus on planning and implementing IFAW campaigns designed to benefit animals, people and the planet, focusing on the rescue of animals in crisis, securing vital landscapes, the rehabilitation and release of wildlife into safe environments, as well as advocating to change the root causes that endanger animals and their habitat in the Oceania region. In addition the wildlife campaigner will work to support IFAW’s broader conservation and animal protection work internationally.

The Wildlife Campaigner works with and seeks to influence decision makers, individuals, communities, organisations and institutions in the Oceania region to secure major gains towards the advancement of IFAWs global strategic plan and development and implementation of the Oceania Regional Plan.

Role and Responsibilities

·  Identify objectives and tactics for agreed campaigns with guidance from the IFAW Oceania Regional Director and head office Programme Directors.

·  Prepare and oversee the implementation of agreed campaign plans to meet organisational objectives.

·  Contribute to planning, reporting and evaluation of IFAW work programmes in the Oceania region under the direction of the Regional Director. This includes overseeing associated expenditure and budgets.

·  Collaborate with governments, agencies, communities and organisations working in the Oceania region to support wildlife conservation and animal welfare initiatives.

·  Develop strategic relationships with key decision makers and individuals to support this work.

·  Develop media plans with the IFAW Oceania Communications Manager. Act as media spokesperson and respond to media coverage of IFAW campaigns when appropriate.

·  Develop response plans for natural disasters and other extreme events which allow rapid and effective deployment of IFAW support to affected animals, vets and carers organisations.

·  Develop and assess grant applications for animal care, conservation and research projects.

·  Commission and manage projects to help achieve campaign aims.

·  Represent IFAW at relevant meetings and conferences.

·  Supervise contractors and volunteers to support delivery of the work programs.

·  Provide information on IFAW Oceania campaigns to colleagues in other IFAW departments (e.g. Supporter Development, Communications, Social and Online Marketing and Programs.

·  Develop knowledge of, and keep abreast of relevant conservation and animal welfare issues.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

·  Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar position, with a strong history of successful campaign implementation is desirable.

·  Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field are preferable.

·  A commitment to wildlife conservation and animal protection issues and to promoting IFAW's values and mission.

·  Knowledge and experience of conservation and environmental issues.

·  Experience of Australian political institutions, non-government organisations and the media is preferable.

·  Effective communication and advocacy skills, both written and verbal and an ability to persuade or influence different audiences.

·  Ability to think strategically, develop and implement work plans and manage program budgets.

·  Experience working in partnership and collaborating with other organisations and agencies.

·  Superior organisational abilities, demonstrating self-motivation and initiative whilst managing a demanding and complex workload. Must be able to function effectively and accurately on multiple projects in a fast-paced atmosphere while maintaining a calm and easy-going nature and a sense of humour.

·  Competent IT and computing skills.

·  Willingness and ability to work flexible hours when necessary.

·  Willingness and ability to travel regionally and internationally.
