Support Emmaus Bristol at this year’s Sleep Out

This year we are again joining other organisationsto raise awareness about homelessness in Bristolat the Homeless Awareness Week Sleep Out on 24th February.

If you would like to join us - and hundreds of others - to highlight the reality of homelessness in the city and help raise vital funds, you will be asked to agree to the terms and conditions outlined below. This is to keep you and all other participants safe, and help make sure this event has as big an impact as possible.

Once registered, you can either download the sponsorship form on our website, or set up your own Just Giving page on to start fundraising.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Only registered participants may take part in the Sleep Out. You must have registered as an individual or as a group.
  2. You must commit to aiming to fundraise a minimum of £100. You will have up to 4 weeks after the event to reach this target. If you do not reach your fundraising target we will discuss this with you, but we may ask that you pay the deficit personally. All funds that you receive in relation to this event should be sent to Emmaus Bristol within 10 days of receiving it.
  3. Please arrive between 10pm – 10:30pm on the Friday evening and be ready to leave the event on the Saturday morning between 6:30am – 7am.
  4. Please register with the Emmaus Bristol representative on arrival and let them know when you leave.
  5. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are healthy enough for sleeping out overnight. If in doubt, please take advice from your medical practitioner. We strongly advise you to dress appropriately for the event - warm and water-proof clothing - and to bring a warm sleeping bag.
  6. During the event you are responsible for your own, and your team's, safety and security. You must agree to take reasonable care not to compromise other participants' safety and security.
  7. No open fires will be permitted.
  8. At the end of the event please take away everything you brought with you including litter, cardboard boxes, plastic sheeting and bin bags.
  9. Participants must be aged 18 or over. 14 – 17 year olds may be permitted with the written consent of the participant’s parent or guardian and must be accompanied by their parent or guardian at all times during the event.
  10. The event will last all night outside in winter and no provisions are being made for children.
  11. No animals or pets may be brought to the event without the prior consent of the Organiser.
  12. Emmaus Bristol and the event organisers, Bristol Christian Action Network, accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to your personal belongings during the event, including any items left at the bag drop. We strongly advise you not to bring valuables or delicate technology.
  13. Only special cases will be granted parking access in the church grounds. Street parking in the immediate vicinity is metered between 8am – midnight.
  14. Failure to abide by the following code of conduct may result in you being required to leave the event:
  15. Alcohol & Drugs - Drugs and alcohol will not be permitted to be consumed during the event. Any participant believed to be using or under the influence of illegal drugs will be required to leave the event and the police will be called.
  16. Smoking – no smoking within the grounds will be permitted.
  17. Respect for others - Please be respectful of those trying to sleep. If you are chatting or disruptive whilst others are trying to sleep, you will be asked to move to another area.
  18. Toilets - Only use designated toilets - event stewards can direct you to their location
  19. You are responsible for your own weather protection and comfort. It will be necessary to bring suitable clothing, sleeping bags, etc. The ground is likely to be cold and damp, possibly muddy, so it is essential to have something insulating and something waterproof to lie on as well as to cover you. A combination of cardboard and plastic sheeting is often used.
  20. Emergency evacuation - In the event of an emergency you must follow direction given by the event managers
  21. You must comply with all instructions and directions from event stewards. Failure to do so may result in you being required to leave the event site.
