An Introduction to THE SUNRISE READING CONTINUUM

Who Should Attend:

·  Kindergarten to Grade 6 teachers, Administrators and Resource Teachers who are new to the Sunrise Reading Continuum. Teachers new to Sunrise will have their subs paid for from the new teacher budget.

·  Teachers who would like a review of the Sunrise Reading Benchmarks Continuum and Tool Kit. Schools are responsible for the subs of teachers who have already attended a continuum introduction session.

When:

Reading and Reading Instruction

The Structure of the Continuum

An Overview of Continuum Behaviours

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch – responsibility of participants

1:00 – 3:30 An Introduction to the Assessment Tool Kit

Plotting “Luc” on the Continuum using tool kit assessments:

·  Phonemic Awareness, Running Records, Letter/Script Identification, Concepts of Print, Dictation, High Frequency Words, Writing Vocabulary/Schonell, Silent Reading Assessment
