SUCCESS STORIES FROM THE 2007 HSC

2008 was a particularly successful year at Bankstown TAFE, as far as the HSC is concerned. Some of our students achieved extremely satisfying results. Others performed well above their expectations. Congratulations to all.

Please note:

  • The college does not receive the UAI’s, only the students themselves, so this list only includes those students who have contacted us since receiving their results and university offers. If you are not on this list and would like to be, please contact us.
  • The list does not include those students who got into TAFE courses or who entered the workforce. Again, if you would like to be included on the list, please contact us.

Ghada Haydarwas our top student in 2008, with a UAI of 98.5. She received band 6’s in all her subjects except Standard English, and was first in the state in Arabic. She is now doing Pharmacy at SydneyUniversity. What is particularly worthy about Ghada’s result is that this was her first attempt at the HSC.

Gareth Ngalso performed brilliantly in the HSC, getting straight band 6’s and a UAI of 97.85.

Lisa Louindaaccumulated her HSC over three years (two years studying at night while working during the day, the final year studying in the day while working at night), and was rewarded with a UAI of 87.45. The University of Technology awarded her an extra five marks under the Educational Access Scheme, bringing her deemed UAI to 92.45 – enough to secure her a place in Commerce-Law at UTS. Lisa was one of our hardest working students, and richly deserves her success.

Kim Burgess was one of our great success stories in 2008. Despite considerable hardship, both personally and financially, she managed to get a UAI of 89.9 and secure a place in Vet Science at CharlesSturtUniversity in Wagga. She should be particularly proud of her band 6 in Chemistry; such a result is very hard to get.

Ba Toan Nguyenreceived a Limited UAI of 89.9, and was very pleased with this result.

Taher Magribigot 87 for his UAI, a very creditable result. He was accepted into the Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering at NSWUniversity.

Abdul Alcheikhgot a UAI of 86 in his second attempt at the HSC. This was a considerable improvement on his previous UAI. He gained entry to nuclear medicine at SydneyUniversity.

Mohammed Jamilgot 86for his UAI, and got into Civil Engineering at UTS.

Brian Duonggot a UAI of 84, which got him into Pharmacy at CharlesSturtUniversityin Bathurst.

Jade Parisigot a Limited UAI of 80, and is now doing primary teaching at UWS. This was her second attempt at the HSC. She increased her UAI by almost 30 marks – a very creditable effort.

Ly Tran attempted the HSC for the second time this year and improved her UAI by almost 20 marks. She got two band 5’s and three band 4s, giving her a UAI of 74. This secured her a place in the Bachelor of Social Science (Criminology) course at the University of New South Wales.

Krestin Naguib also performed well, gaining two band 5’s and three band 4’s. She received a UAI of 70, which was boosted to 75 via the EAS scheme, getting her into the BA, BEd program at the University of NSW.

Sarah Lennox is doing her HSC over two years at Ultimo TAFE. She came to Bankstown last year to do one subject – Ancient History – and received a mark of 90. Well done!

Lin Qi was doing a Limited UAI last year. We do not know her score, but her marks were extremely good: 86 in both 2 Unit and Extension 1 Maths. With an English ESL mark of 65, she will certainly have matriculated to university.

Julio Urquia got very solid band 4’s in all his subjects and got into the Bachelor of Psychology course at UWS.

Katia Bourizk got very solid band 4’s in all her subjects and was accepted to do A Bachelor of Arts at UWS.

Chris Jenson got into the Bachelor of Medical Science course at UWS.

Uday Mangalvedhekar got into the Bachelor of Environmental Management degree at UWS.

Georgina Allamgot four band 4’s and a good band 3, and matriculated to UWS to do a Bachelor of Science degree.

Sania Ahmed was accepted into a Bachelor of Science degree at UWS.

Rita Allam chose to do a course in TAFE, following her HSC.

Ruth Abboud matriculated to uni, but chose to do a course at Bankstown TAFE instead. If you read this, Ruth, can you please let us know what it is you are doing?

Tin Nguyen was very pleased with his HSC results, and is currently doing his Certificate IV in Community Service Work at St George TAFE. This is exactly what he was planning to do.
