NEWS FROM CCPH

Institute of Medicine Report on NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award Program Strongly Supports Community Engagement! The Institute of Medicine has released its report on the CTSA program and our message has been heard! The report recommends that "Community engagement should not be a stand-alone program requirement; it must be crosscutting and embedded in leadership, implementation, research, and communication strategies across all levels of the CTSA Program” and “this program component is essential and needs to be preserved, nurtured, and expanded." The report extensively cites comments submitted by the CCPH-CTSA Member Interest Group and the Delphi study conducted by CCPH and the Center for Community Health Education Research and Service. Read the report. For more information about the CCPH-CTSA Member Interest Group, email .

Manitoba Research Alliance Receives CCPH Annual Award! The 12th recipient of the CCPH annual award was announced at last month’s CU Expo conference in Canada. The award highlights the power and potential of partnerships between communities and academic institutions as a strategy for health equity and social justice. Selected from a highly competitive group of nominations from Canada, Australia and the United States, the Manitoba Research Alliance (MRA) has for over a decade been bringing together academics and community organizations to study and promote solutions to inner city and Aboriginal poverty, ill health and social exclusion. Materials Available from Workshop on Community-Engaged Scholarship! CCPH and 8 Canadian universities have formed the Community-Engaged Scholarship (CES) Partnership to advance CES in Canada. The Partnership co-sponsored a one-day workshop during the CU Expo conference last month on “Advancing CES: Knowledge, Tools, Resources & Relationships.” The topics covered included transforming university culture to embrace CES, aligning promotion and tenure systems with CES, and supporting the development of community-engaged scholars. Access the workshop agenda, presentations and handouts here.

CCPH Welcomes Research Assistant!CCPH has been awarded diversity supplement funding for our NIH-funded study, "A National Collaborative Study of Community-Based Processes for Research Ethics Review." Paige Castro, an undergraduate student at the University of Washington, joins the study team as a research assistant.
