Assignment brief

Unit number and title: / Unit 62: Digital Video Production for Interactive Media T/502/5674
Assignment number and title: / Assignment 2 of 2 :Devise, shoot/source and create a digital video sequence for use in an interactive media project
Start Date: / 13th June 2016
Deadline: / 24th June 2016
Teacher name: / Jed Gibbs
Scenario:
/ MTV UK’s YouTube channel want to build a network of independent associates.
MTV commission you to create a pilot episode for a series initially for your own YouTube channel. Suitable topics include games reviews, blind taste tests, “Will it Blend?” or a showcase for your musical talents or other skills.
They are interested in your approach and professionalism in planning and producing your pilot episode as they are also looking to recruit for their own team.
Task 1
Completing this task fully will provide you the opportunity to meet Criteria P2,M2,D2; P3, M3, D3; P4, M4, D4.
Plan a digital video project, generating ideas, making decisions about content, storyboarding, editing, and producing digital video material for use in an interactive media context.
Working individually or in small groups, devise an episode for an online channel. Guide length 10 minutes but your decision.
Show evidence of brainstormingwhich might include rejected ideas or ideas for future episodes; create pre-visualisation sketches, storyboard andan outline script for commentary or introductions.
Keep in mind legal and ethical considerations and explain where they impact your project: copyright, libel, ethical, confidentiality, decency; representation of race, gender, religion, sexuality. Should your content carry a warning about a minimum suitable viewing age or flashing lights? What is your target audience?
What technical considerations affect your project with regard to file format, file size, compression, streaming method, media player? What equipment will you use to record video and audio and in the editing process, and why have you chosen these?
Use your blog to document the process and to provide insight into your planning and decision making, workflow (scheduling, efficient time management); deadlines (production milestones, deliverables, quality assurance).
When you shoot video assets you need to ensure shot quality (lighting, focus, depth of field, colour balance, exposure) and good shot composition (camera angle and framing – wideshots, two-shots, close-ups)
If you source additional video assets through a video library, online, broadcast, client, peers, tutor or record games footage – how have you achieved this?
Asset management: capturing/importing video; organising (file storage and retrieval, naming conventions)
Your final piece should show your mastery of post-production software techniques in Premiere, After Effects or your preferred editing software (say what this is and why): editing clips withcuts or transitions such as cross-dissolves (or something more unusual), fading to black; may incorporate still images; colour correction where needed; video effects; audio (editing, gain, fade); compositing (for example picture in picture to superimpose your comments above game footage) and titles/credits and perhaps a logo for your production.
Exporting digital video with consideration for filesize, which will depend on your chosen resolution (1080p or 1024 x 576 etc), data transfer rate (kb/s), frame rate, key frame rate, compressor (eg H264), audio settings; aspect ratio, eg 4:3, 16:9 widescreen.
Upload final piece to your YouTube channel. Behind the scenes and production footage may be uploaded to the same channel or to Vimeo.
Reflect and self-assess your project in your blog or via OneNote(how does the outcome compareyou’re your original intentions, fitness for purpose, technical qualities); production skills (ideas generation, video sequence specification, workflow and time management, technical competence, teamwork). If working in a group make clear which are your main contributions.
