1. Summer projects/Winter projects planned

·  Darrell Lutey, Assistant Director of Instructional Technology Services, gave an overview of the national classroom technology conference recently held on campus.

·  Darrell and Frank Alaimo, AV Systems Specialist, discussed completed, current, and planned classroom technology projects.

·  Examples of classroom/lab technology projects recently completed: Lied Library, CEB psychology PRACTICE project, Greenspun lab, Grant Hall computer labs, faculty collaboratory space in the library, upgrades to several departmental classrooms (approx. 84), and refresh of projectors, document cameras, and lectern rewires.

·  Current, on-going projects: Lied multipurpose room, Law School upgrade, video wall for Architecture stairwell, CBC C307 computer lab upgrade, BHS 213/215 digital interactive classrooms, CEB 216 new technology room, FDH 204/205 new technology room, and CBC C224 conference room upgrade.

·  Collaborations: OIT, Academic Success Center, and the College of Engineering partnered to create an engineering tutoring center; and OIT worked with the library to establish a new graduate commons.

·  Planned Winter Break projects: Evaluation of all general purpose classrooms, establishment of a priority list for Spring/Summer projects, creation of a new digital design for the four CBC auditoriums, and addressing any issues with select general purpose rooms (e.g., lectern re-wires).

·  Several software packages were upgraded (Adobe, SPSS, Autocad).

2. Software available, free and discounted

·  Vanessa Nagata, Technology Support Specialist, discussed software procurement options and explained how to order various software.

·  Discounts are available from Kivuto (formerly e-Academy) and from manufacturers (Apple, Microsoft).

·  The DreamSpark Premium program is available to students taking a course or majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. The DreamSpark Standard program with fewer options is available to all students.

3. UNLV IT Master Planning

·  BerryDunn consultants have been on campus twice, but student participation in the open forums has been lacking.

·  Students can access an anonymous survey at the OIT website and express their views about the current state of IT on campus and what technologies they believe UNLV needs for the campus to be a first-choice university.

·  OIT will send STAB members master planning information that can be shared with other students in their colleges.

·  In spring 2013, all the assessment data gathered will be summarized in a draft report.

4. Other items

·  Greenspun Mac lab, 1st floor issue: Computers cannot handle the instructor’s course assignments/activities. Kristina Manillo said the machines’ operating systems cannot support being upgraded at this time, but a study is being done to determine the cost of replacing the computers.

·  Finding out about STAB: So far, accomplished from fellow students. This topic needs more strategizing and brainstorming. Will post cards announcing the meetings on stanchions in front of the computer labs.

·  STAB will meet next on December 5th, 11:30 am – 12:45 pm.
