Community policing solves problems

Gulf Breeze Police Officers and their community partners have generated over 100 proactive and creative solutions to large and small issues in our City since 2001. Some examples listed below:

1.Developed and installed stop sign informational signs to improve stop sign compliance at our through streets.

2.Reduced vandalism by over 60% as a result of a comprehensive Homecoming anti-vandalism initiative.

3.Reduced traffic crashes in the City by over 7% in two years from our Traffic Safety Task Force strategies. This reduction was generated in spite of a 15% increase in traffic and a 26% increase in crashes in the rest of the county in the same time period.

4. Educated parents and teachers to detect and reduce drug use among our youngsters.

5.Created Volunteers in Police Service program that uses 29 civilians to drive marked police cars for traffic calming and motorist assistance.

6.Trained 26 Citizen Emergency Response Team members to render aid safely in the event of any type of disaster.

If you have any concern that we can help you with, just call Gulf Breeze Police at 934-5121 and ask for your resource officer.

How to get problems solved

Your Community Resource Officer will be glad to act as your point of contact for any issue you may have.

The CRO in your area will work directly with you to resolve your issue or forward the concern to the proper department or agency.

If the concern can not be addressed locally, we will endeavor to marshal other resources or agencies to bring whatever solutions can be generated to develop a solution.

how are problems identified?

Members of the public talk to our staff and let them know about things or conditions that are unsafe or need corrective action.

Officers on patrolmake a note of issues that they detect in their daily patrols. Officers can see things that are out of place or things that need to be addressed. One officer developed a house numbering initiative to make emergency response easier, more accurate and faster.

Schools and other agencies identify needs that can be addressed. Our personnel provide DARE training to Gulf Breeze Elementary and the PensacolaBeachElementary schools.

partnerships create real solutions

The police can not solve every problem by themselves. We involve members of the community, the media, schools, city council, city staff and other stakeholders to create lasting and effective problem solutions.

We are innovative and open-minded to ideas. Some of the most effective solutions that have been implemented in the past 5 years have been ‘out of the box’ ideas from our residents of our community.

We enjoy the support of our city council and city staff to develop innovative and effective solutions to problems. With our community partners, we are the first community in the State to acquire a Simulated Impaired Driving Simulator car that demonstrates the effects of drunk driving to our youngsters. We are the first in the State to implement a red light camera enforcement program to reduce red light running

good ideas work

We use good ideas that are provided for problem-solving wherever they may come from. Our partnership with the students resulted in the development of the skate park as a destination that was designed by the youngsters in the city!
