Step into the Exciting World of a Career in Law!

Project Law Track - Chicago: April 12 – May 14, 2016

Project Law Track – DuPage: April 6 – April 30, 2016

Designed by girls, for girls!

Project Law Track is a series of interactive sessions that will introduce you to the fascinating field of law! Attorneys with the Chicago Bar Association’s Alliance for Women and the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers work with teen Girl Scouts in four exciting sessions, each focusing on a different facet of the practice of law. Learn whether courtrooms are really like what you see on the big screen, what it takes to have a career in law, and plan and stage your very own mock trial! Girls may apply for either the Chicago Track or the DuPage Track.

You’ll get a chance to work side by side with women lawyers who specialize in all areas of the Law, including Corporate Lawyers, Litigators, Intellectual Property Lawyers, Family Law, Prosecutors, and more!

Session 1 - Law: As Seen On TV – Have you ever wondered if the courtroom is as action-packed as it is on TV and in the movies? Do lawyers really get to shout, “objection!”? And do judges really have to hold people in contempt of court that often? Engage in a lively discussion about what really goes down in a court of law.

Session 2 - Law School/Career Day – Interested in learning about a career in law? Find out what it takes when you talk with current law students about what specialty might interest you! Chicago Girl Scouts will tour downtown Chicago-Kent College of Law; DuPage Girl Scouts will meet with judges, attorneys, and other law professionals to learn about career choices, law school, and more!

Session 3 - Prepare Your Case! – Step into the shoes of a real courtroom attorney as you work with other girls to prepare for your own mock trial! Attorneys with the Chicago Bar Association and the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers will help you formulate your arguments and prepare your case.

Session 4 - Try Your Case! – Acting as trial attorney, you’ll follow all the steps to make your case in front of a real judge. Afterwards, receive valuable feedback from judges, attorneys, and fellow Girl Scouts who will be there to cheer you on.
