The statement of purpose is an important part of your application – it is your opportunity to show us who you are. We will consider carefully the answers to the following questions. Please write your answers below each question in the box provided (it will resize as you type). The completed document must not exceed 3 pages in total.

Question 1: Why are you applying for the Master of Science Programme in Psychology? Why do you believe you would benefit from it?

Question 2: It is not always evident from your transcripts how much research methods, statistics and writing of research reports your program requires. Please list a) all courses where methods and statistics were taught, and how many credits (or study hours) they correspond to b) all courses that require you to write at least one research report, and how many credits (or study hours) they correspond to.

Draft Research Proposal: The research proposal should draw a connection between your academic background in the field of psychology and the MSc Programme in Psychology.

What to include in your Draft Research Proposal

• A working title. This title should be short and concise.

• The Research Topic/Problem: Define and give a brief overview of the topic as well as relevant research questions.

• Theory/mode of analysis: How will the research problem be understood in principle and how will it be structured? Specify your theoretical approach.

• Methods and empirical data: How do you intend to investigate your research problem? Please note that you only need to give a brief reasoning of the chosen method/methods

• No reference literature is required

• The thesis proposal should be no longer than one page (approx. 300 words)

The purpose of the research proposal is to give us an overview of your abilities of planning a scientific research proposal. This could build on research experience that you have had in your degree (e.g. thesis work, research courses or laboratory experience) or on experience gained form work, internship or volunteering. We are interested on how you think scientifically. You are not committed to work with these ideas in your Master’s work. You will not be judged on novelty or whether the proposal fits with our profile.
