Job Title: Youth Care Worker I / Reports to: Group Home Manager
Department: Residential Department / r Exempt x Non-Exempt

JOB PURPOSE
The Youth Care Worker’s work in the residential program to ensure a safe environment for our clients; coordinate, plan and implement group activities; facilitates group sessions; provides transportation support; and works cooperatively with the Care Manager on implementation of an individualized service plan designed to help clients build targeted skills and reach established goals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: A high school diploma or GED
Licensure/Certification: N/A
Minimum Requirements:
Ø  Minimum age requirement is 21 years old.
Ø  Minimum of one (1) years of experience in working with at-risk youth and children.
Ø  Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills necessary.
Ø  Valid PA driver’s license with excellent driving record, reliable vehicle, insurance and registration required.
Clearances Required: PA Act 33 (Child Abuse) / Act 34 (Criminal History) / Federal Criminal History Record (FBI Fingerprint)
Other Skills/Abilities:
Ø  Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to ensure full compliance with agency and government regulations.
Ø  Ability to engage in physical activities with residents.
Ø  Ability to employ passive physical restraint techniques in crisis situations
Ø  Ability to drive a high occupancy vehicle or own vehicle with legal proof of driver’s license, and insurance.
Ø  Ability to make safe and appropriate decisions during times of crisis
POSITION SUMMARY
Ø  Provides a safe and healthy environment for all residents, serving as a role model for girls. Provides supervision, support and assistance to residents during their sleeping and morning hours. Reports progress and concerns to supervisor regularly. Properly informs and works with other staff and supervisors.
Ø  Completes all required documentation as per established policy standards and regulations, including but not limited to the following: Document all assessment and treatment information in written report form and through verbal communication with treatment team and outside agencies; Assesses and documents individual and group behaviors in a timely manner; Maintains proper documentation of shifts and incidents as per established policy standards and regulations. Documents and reports progress, concerns, etc., to supervisor. Communicates regularly with treatment team and Program Manager to keep team properly informed.
Ø  Provides as a childcare resource for teen mom’s residing in the group. Resource may include childcare, role modeling appropriate parenting skills and redirecting inappropriate behaviors.
Ø  Is knowledgeable of, and assists in, the implementation of services, as established in the treatment plan, if deemed necessary during his/her shift. Works cooperatively with staff and treatment team to assist in implementing individualized service plans to help participants build targeted skills and reach program goals, as deemed necessary during his/her shift. Reports progress and concerns to supervisor weekly. Properly informs and works with other staff and supervisors, as needed.
Ø  Actively participates in all required team meetings, trainings and supervisory sessions. Attends all required trainings and meetings. Meets regularly with Supervisor, communicates openly needs, concerns, and ideas; utilizes feedback given in supervisory sessions.
Ø  Performs in accordance with established system-wide competencies and receives satisfactory performance evaluations annually.
Ø  Performs other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in a group home setting with adolescent girls with adverse backgrounds. Staff must be prepared to engage in verbal and physical interventions in the event of a crisis.
Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching over head, speaking, hearing, reading comprehension and the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
General Requirements: 1) Indoors in busy office, working in close proximity to co-workers; 2) Frequently required to work at a fast pace; 3) Requires considerable concentration and creativity; 4) Weekend and evening work required; 5) Travel required (transporting clients).
