The CCRC newsletter is provided on a bi-weekly basis to provide information on activities and events that are helpful to Park Center students and their parents. This publication is also on Park Center’s website (under Academics or under Quick Links at right of home page).

Juniors, spring is the time for you to seriously start your college search. In the next several weeks the CCRC will host visits from many college admissions representatives. This is a time for you to learn about the programs they offer, financial aid, scholarships, activities and clubs, on campus housing and more. WASTEBASKET REVUE SCHOLARSHIP: Nearly 300 employees and community members of Independent School District279 put on an annual variety show. Teachers, custodians, principals, cooks, secretaries, educational support professionals, and administrator all participate. The purpose of the show is to raise money for scholarships awarded to graduatingstudents of the ACHIEVE program, Maple Grove Senior High, Osseo Area Learning Center, Osseo Senior High, Osseo Secondary Transition Center, and Park Center Senior High to assist in the finance of their post-secondary education. Over $1,100,000 has been raised and over 800 scholarships have been awarded since 1967!

BROOKLYNK: Get Work Ready Training! Paid Summer Internships! Work Ready Training: Learn real skills for a real summer job! The trainings will be fun, led by local professionals, and focus on topics such as networking, resume building and professionalism. Youth between the ages of 14-21 are eligible to apply. The mission of BrookLynk is to prepare youth with essential job skills, experiential employment opportunities, and professional social networks to develop personal pathways to college and career.

Summer Internships: Youth aged 16-19 who have completed BrookLynk Get Work Ready Training can apply for paid summer internships. Internships are coordinated with local employers and provide opportunities for young people to explore career fields, regardless of previous work experience. Fire Service Exploring is one of the career-oriented programs offered by Learning for Life and is open to all students between 14 and 18 years of age.

The BCFD Explorer Post meets twice a month on the first and third Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00PM year round. Typically this time is spent learning about the fire service, emergency medical skills, and the job of a firefighter. Explorers participate in both classroom and hands-on firefighting skills, with some limitations for the safety of the youth.

Being a part of the Exploring program is more than just learning about the fire service. It also gives you an opportunity to:

  • Improve self-confidence
  • Leadership experience and social network development
  • Fun and exciting "hands-on" career experiences
  • Try out leadership roles
  • Participate in your community and assist in community service events
  • Hang out with a great group of other Explorers

North Hennepin Community College Scholarships: NHCC offers scholarships for new and returning students based on program of study, academic achievement, community involvement, and financial need. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $1000. Please apply between February 1st and April 30th at

HOW TO SEND YOUR TRANSCRIPT: The Osseo School District is offering FREE electronic transcripts for current students. Students needing a transcript should go to set up a personal profile using an e-mail address that is nottheir school apps e-mail address and then request their transcript to be sent electronically. Transcripts will be processed within two school days with the following exceptions – weekends, holidays, during processing of final transcript grades and two days before and three days after trimester end. Former students will be charged a $5.00 processing fee for this service. Note: When putting in your school, put in “Park Center” only and a drop down menu will come up and then choose “Park Center IB World”.

Beginning with the class of 2018, class rank will no longer be reflected on the transcript; however, it will be added to the report card each trimester. Energy Explorers

Great River Energy participates in the Northern Star Council’s “Exploring and Learning for Life” career program. The purpose of Great River Energy’s program is to provide high school students with information and experience in a variety of career fields possible in the energy industry.

Students will explore technical careers related to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of utility power systems. These include generation, transmission, telecommunications network, and information technology systems.

On Tuesday, March 13th: “Watching the Grid” This session will help de-mystify how power companies are able to monitor and control the power grid. This discussion will include the career paths that utilize the technologies and programs that help the power company supervise, controland acquire the data from our modern electric grid-from the generator all the way to the home andbusiness. The presentation runs from 6:30PM – 8:00PM at the Great River Energy headquarters, 12300 Elm Creek Blvd in Maple Grove. The first 45 minutes consist of a professional, qualified man or woman talking about their career. The second 45 minutes will include a hands-on activity for students to experience that type of career.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison – College of Engineering offers three summer programs for high school students.

  • The Engineering Summer Program for current sophomores and juniors runs from June 16th – July 27th and is designed to engage students who perform strongly in math and science and would like to explore careers in engineering. Activities include courses in math, physics, chemistry, engineering, and technical communications. This six-week camp is free for participating students and includes housing and meals.
  • The ProCSI six day program is for freshman, sophomore and junior students to have fun discovering how important computer science and engineering are to modern research. This residential camp runs from July 15th – 20th.Activities include computer-aided design, problem solving, and tours of engineering laboratories where cutting edge research take place.
  • Engineering Tomorrow’s Careersis run by the Society of Women Engineers and is open to female sophomore and junior students interested in engineering. This student led camp is from June 17th – 22nd and is at no cost to participants. It gives girls the opportunity to explore various disciplines within engineering. The structured activities include lectures, labs, and tours of UW-Madison engineering facilities.

Michigan Technical University offers two summer programs for students interested in STEM careers. Women in Engineering takes place during the week of July 29th and the Engineering Scholars Program begins on July 22nd. These two programs allow academically talented young men and women to explore various fields of engineering through hands-on-projects and classroom investigations. Students explore real engineering labs, meet leaders and role models, and learn about careers in areas including mechanical, environmental, electrical, chemical, civil, and materials engineering.
