If you answered YES to ANY of the above then the St. Philip Neri Drama Program is definitely something you will want to be a part of this year! Learn all about theatre from behind the scenes to on stage as well as all sorts of fun skills and activities that you can use in many different areas, including: sports, music, academics, art and also confidence and self-esteem building skills. PARENTS
The St. Philip Neri Drama Program offers a wonderful opportunity for students in first through seventh grades to learn about drama and theatre arts by experiencing it through multi-level classes and full theatrical productions. The program offers four after school drama classes, based on grade and experience level in previous drama classes. A brief synopsis of these classes can be found on the class enrollment page. In addition to the drama classes, students may also audition for two full-scale productions a year – a Halloween/mystery play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Students may also participate in productions as crew members – assisting with sets, costumes, props, special effects and in some cases, even assistant directing!
While providing a creative outlet and a fun experience for students, the drama program also offers students a venue in which they can build confidence, increase self-esteem and develop skills that they can use in many other areas of their lives. Skills such as focus, memory and recall, observation and cooperation are just a few of these skills that students have sharpened through drama and utilized in their other activities, such as sports, academics and social interaction.
St. Philip Neri also offers a drama camp every summer in which students can learn various acting and backstage skills through different theatre games and techniques. The students get to use what they have learned by putting together a full-scale production throughout the camp. This production is presented to the public the final weekend of the drama camp.
The drama program also gives the adults of St. Philip Neri Parish and volunteers a chance to flex their theatre muscles in the parish adult theatre troupe – The St. Philip Players. The troupe presents at least one full-scale production a year and has also presented some entertaining interactive murder mystery musicals/dinner theatre.
