JOB DESCRIPTION

Role: Deputy Manager

Responsible to:Registered Care Home Manager

Location:Chalkhill Road Project, WembleyHA9

St Martin’s have three registered care homes where 24 hour support is provided to between 18 and 23 men of working age. Residents have often spent considerable time in institutional settings, i.e. hospitals or prisons. Residents are furthermore unable to live more independently at the present time in their lives due to the challenges of having to overcome the impact of having chronic long term mental health needs, and in some cases also having become trapped in debilitating alcohol and drug taking lifestyles.

Working alongside the Registered Care Manager, the Deputy will be responsible for the day to day supervision of the staff team in our Chalkhill Road forensic mental health care home. The role is critical in ensuring that we provide the highest quality service to our residents, who often display complex needs and challenging behaviour.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks Include:

  • To support the Project Manager to oversee the day-to-day service provision to residents, ensuring that service standards and targets are met and the Association’s policies and procedures are fully implemented.
  • To work in conjunction with the ProjectManager in the development of the service, by working closely with community mental health teams and developing good links with referral agents.
  • Participate in the referral process including interviewing, assessing, working closely with referral agencies and compiling accurate reports on prospective clients.
  • To take responsibility for the management of Chalkhill Road in the absence of the ProjectManager and take on such other duties as are consistent with the post as agreed with the line Manager.
Service Provision
  • Toensure that service users are enabled/empowered to participate in their care and in organisational activities
  • To ensure all staff members are aware of current risks and issues concerning service users and that their needs for move-on accommodation are assessed and met.
  • To ensure relevant Health and Safety checks are undertaken and to deal and resolve any Health and Safety breaches.

Staff

  • To manage staff, locums and volunteers and provide them with regular supervision.
  • To conduct annual appraisals in line with the Association’s policy.
  • Ensure the Project is adequately staffed by producing a rota at least 4 weeks in advance.
  • To monitor performance of the team and individual staff to ensure good practice,in accordance with the Care Standards Act 2001
  • Tomonitor and record staff sickness, absence and time sheets, authorise requests for annual leave, other leave, claims for payment and to complete necessary returns.

Finance and Administration

  • To check invoices for goods and services and authorise payments as per procedures and to authorise and monitor expenditure in accordance with budgetary limits and procedures.
  • Tocontribute to the development of the annual revenue budget in consultation with the ProjectManagerand monitor income and expenditure in accordance with the Project’s annual revenue budget.

Organisational Management

  • To attend and participate in the Association’s meetings and working parties as agreed with the ProjectManager.
  • To take part in the on-call ‘out-of-hours’ service to the Association’s projects and to provide emergency cover at the project as necessary.

General

  • To participate in regular supervision and attend Annual Appraisal with the ProjectManager.
  • To attend a variety of meetings including staff meetings, statutory and non statutory meetings and Managers meetings, as agreed with the Project Manager.
  • To undertake any further training as deemed necessary and consistent with the objectives of the post.
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the role, as requested by the ProjectManager.

PayYou will be paid at Grade 1 of your Band upon joining St Martins.

HolidaysYou will receive 25 days leave each year, in addition to statutory public holidays, for the first two years service; you will then be entitled to 28 days holiday. In your fourth year you will be entitled to 30 days.

Probationary Period6 Months

Hours37.5 per week on average, including unpaid 30 minute break per day shift.
