There will be a mix of fixed days to provide cover in our shops but an element of flexibility will also be required to support short-notice cover or planned holiday absences. Although we don’t currently trade on a Sun in all shops, we will be looking to trade some stores in the future on Sundays

Band:2 £15,210-£17,438 (pro rata)

Reports to:Senior Shop Manager or Shop Manager for the location in which based, and Retail Development Manager in their absence

Location:As agreed on appointment. Travel expenses will be reimbursed if required to cover a shop that isn’t the main shop based in

Job summary:The post holder reports directly to the Senior Shop Manager or Shop Manager who all report into the Retail Development Manager. The role is expected to work closely with the charity shop staff and volunteersto ensure that overall financial and fundraising retail objectives are met.

To undertake themain aspects of running one of Wirral Hospice St John’s charity shops in the absence of the Senior Shop Manager or Shop Manager.

You will be working with the Senior Shop Manager, Shop Manager and Retail Development Managerto help maintain and develop profitability and follow effective retail practice. As an Assistant Shop Manager,the post holder is required to cover planned and unplanned Manager and volunteer support absences across Wirral Hospice St John’s retail network. The role will involve opening and closing the shop, banking, stock processing, customer liaison and working alongside an enthusiastic team of loyal volunteers

Main Areas of Responsibility:

  • Be flexible on days worked to ensure the shops are staffed appropriately covering for planned and unplanned staff and volunteer support absences
  • Help Manager implement agreed initiatives to increase profitability of the shop
  • To ensure the efficient running of the shop when in charge, including:

- Opening & closing the shop

- Sorting donated goods

- Steaming clothing

- Pricing

- Organising effective displays of goods including window displays

- Provide a high level of customer service at all times

- Banking daily takings and keeping accurate records of all financial transactions

- Action any day-to-day tasks/objectives delegated by the Manager

- Helping to provide accurate weekly reports

  • To help ensure stocks of donated goods are maintained and to work with other shops as needed to ensure an even distribution of goods
  • Oversee and motivate volunteers on duty
  • Promote Gift Aid on donated goods in line with shop targets
  • To effectively market and securely store ‘new goods’(including a monthly stock take)
  • To help promote hospice fundraising activities in the shop
  • Where required to support the recruitment and training of volunteers, ensuring levels are maintained to cover staffing of the shop, including holiday cover. Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed and promptly sent to the Volunteer Services Manager
  • To ensure that all Health & Safety requirements are met and maintained
  • To promote good internal communications between Hospice departments and to promote its good name externally.

General:

  • To attend,relevantexternal andinternalmeetingsandevents as agreed with the Senior Shop Manager, Shop Manager or Retail Development Manager.
  • Represent the team and the hospice at appropriate external events and meetings.

  • To support competitor monitoring activity and make recommendations to appropriate colleagues about future ideas or suggested adjustments to existing programmes.
  • Help the team to promote fundraising activities to other hospice staff and volunteers to encourage wider participation.

  • Support colleagues and participate in fundraising activities that contribute to the hospice’s overall income-generation plans.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Driving Licence/Use of Own Vehicle:

As driving forms part of your duties it is an express condition of your employment with the Hospice that:-

i)You have your own vehicle and use it to undertake your duties; and

ii)You hold and continue to hold a valid driving licence of the relevant class at all times.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your own vehicle is properly insured to cover your duties, including Business use, covered by both a valid MOT certificate and road tax at all times. You must provide a copy of the insurance certificate to the Facilities Department in line with policy

You must produce/make available your licence for inspection upon request and ensure that you take all necessary steps to continue to hold the licence in line with policy.

If you lose your licence for any reason you must notify your Manager immediately. If you lose your driving your continued employment may be at risk.

The Hospice will reimburse you for business miles at the Hospice’s business mileage rate. This is paid in line with Wirral Hospice St John’s Employee Benefits Policy.
