SOPHMORE ADVANCED STUDIO IN ART II

Choose one project idea out of the options presented by Ms. Shmerykowsky.

This project is completed AT HOME, on top of any regular class work.

Please give yourself ADEQUATE time to complete your project.

RESEARCH/PROPOSAL DUE: 20 %

TYPED. Include name, class/ period

Choose one of the project ideas provided.

Type one paragraph on your project idea.

Research artists, materials and ideas relating to your project for next class.

List materials and supplies you plan to use.

PAPER DUE: 10%

TYPE a one page paper on your experience, what did you learn, how did you do it, what difficulties and/or problems did you encounter.

USE RESOURCES OF INFORMATION!

ANY resources used for information, (web sites, books, movies, museum visits, etc….), MUST be SITED in a BIBLIOGRAPHY and will be submitted with this paper…………………………………… 5% of the 10%

PHOTOS DUE: 20%

You must submit AT LEAST ten photos of yourself working on the project.

Photos must be step-by-step.

One photo for EACH STEP of the project.

You may print the photos out at a store (CVS, Riteaid, Duane Reade, and Walgreens) or from your home computer.

LABEL which step it is and what is going on in each.

PROJECT DUE: 50%

Final Project may be dropped off in your art class room the day it is due. Project must represent one month’s work. Only, professionally presented, high quality work will be accepted.

LATE WORK

Late projects are downgraded one full letter grade per day late.

PROJECT OPTIONS

CHOOSE ONE PROJECT FROM THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS

(If you have Adobe: Photoshop at home, you can add the use of it into any of these project.)

PROJECT #1: Classical Photo Series

  • Choose a Classical Art Era (You are NOT limited to these choices.)
  • Neoclassical
  • Impressionism
  • Expressionism
  • Realism
  • Romanticism
  • Choose ONE particular artist you are interested in from that Era.
  • RECREATE AT LEAST 6 of their paintings to the best of your ability via Photography.
  • Use yourself and others to recreate the scenes
  • Think about your backdrop/ scenery
  • Think about clothing
  • MOUNT your work neatly
  • On the back of each, have a small print out photo of the original paintings
  • Also, add the name of original artist and title (with date of creation.)

PROJECT #2: Typographic Illustration

  • Choose ONE of the following themes:
  • Visually represent a FULL poem
  • Visually represent a SONG (PG lyrics please!)
  • Visually represent a chapter from your favorite book.
  • Visually represent a scene from your favorite movie.
  • The size of the project must be AT LEAST 11x14 (8x10 will NOT be accepted.)
  • Incorporate your PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
  • This is a VISUAL representation of the words in an Illustrative manner.
  • Use whatever MEDIUM you want.
  • VISUALLY represent the words with TYPOGRAPHIC DESIGN. (Examples below.)
  • Be creative and make use it is all LEGIABLE!
  • Also, please TYPE OUT the poem/ song/ chapter/ scene and attach to the back of your work.

PROJECT #3:Children’sBook

  • Design a BOOK based onan ORIGNAL story you will create.
  • Size of the book can be NO SMALLER than 5x8 inches.
  • Create a STORYBOARD for your story.
  • Have AT LEAST 15 pages in this book.
  • Front cover with ORIGINAL title counts as PAGE ONE
  • There should be imagery on ALL pages.
  • 10 out of 15 pages MUST have words.
  • Words can be typed or hand-written.
  • Think about compositional space and your Principles of Design,
  • Physically put together a book. (Research basic book-binding techniques. Be creative with it!)
  • Color with colored pencils, pens, pencils and/or markers

PROJECT #4:Mythological- Self Sculptural Bust

  • Choose a Mythological person/ creature.
  • You will be creating a drawing and sculpture of yourself AS your chosen Mythological person/creature.
  • DRAWING:
  • First draw a SELF PORTRAIT on Bristol Board.
  • Use pencil or colored pencil/ marker.
  • Use VALUE.
  • Use a MIRROR.
  • Then, draw your COMBINED image of the Mythological person/ creature and yourself.
  • Draw on Bristol Board.
  • There should be elements of you visible.
  • Also make sure the Mythological person/ creature aspect is distinct as well.
  • Use pencil or colored/ pencil marker.
  • SCULPTURE:
  • A bust is from the SHOULDERS UP.
  • Use MINIMUM of 4lbs of self- hardening clay.
  • Remember how to preserve it while working on it!
  • Remember, DETAILS LAST!
  • Make sure to let dry for 24 HOURS when completed.
