Excel Spreadsheet Vocab Sheet

Task: Use the glossary to define the following terms. Use may need to locate the term inside of the chapter on Excel.

Vocabulary:

Absolute Cell Reference Cell reference that does not adjust to the new cell location when copied or moved

Active Cell Highlighted cell ready for data

Auto sum The Greek Symbol, Sigma; to automatically add up cells

Cell intersection of a row and column in a spreadsheet

Cell Alignment Feature that automatically aligns the cells

Cell Reference Identifies the cell by row number and column letter

Charts: Graphical representation of data contained in a worksheet

Bar- Using colored bars to represent data

Line- Points plotted relevant to data and connected with lines

Pie- A circle is divided among percentage of data

Column Appear vertically in a spreadsheet and are identified by letters

F1 Brings up the help screen

F4 Delete

F5 Go to

Fill Copies data into cells adjacent to the original

Formula equation that calculates a new value from values currently on the worksheet

Formula Bar appears below the toolbar in the worksheet; displays a formula when the cell contains a value

Functions used to insert dates and certain kinds of text into a worksheet

Name Box area on the left side of the formula bar that identifies the reference of the active cell

Operands numbers or cell references used in calculations in the formulas of worksheets

Operators tells Excel what to do with operands in a formula

Order of Evaluation sequence of calculation in a worksheet formula

Protection prevents accidental changed from being made in a worksheet

Range selected group of cells in a worksheet identified by the cell in the upper-left corner.

Relative Cell Reference cell reference that adjusts to a new location when copied or moved

Row appears horizontally in a worksheet and are identified by numbers

Show Formulas: a hotkey that automatically shows the formulas
