Sporting Memories – First Team Manager / Session Worker
Reporting to: Area Project Coordinator.
Main Aim: To plan and facilitate Sporting Memories reminiscence sessions.
Remuneration: £10 per hour (plus reasonable travel time and expenses).
Holiday Entitlement:Post holder will accrue holiday pay as per government guidance.
Hours per week:Will vary between 4 and 8, comprised of 2 hour sessions (including travel), between 10am – 4pm, Monday and Friday.
Location:Various community locations within the locality of Salford.
Sporting Memories promote and develop the use of sporting memories to improve the wellbeing of people through conversation and reminiscence. All of our products and services have been devised as easy to use tools to facilitate this process for individuals, groups and organisations across the globe. As part of this you will receive:
• Tailored training and supportdelivered both on and off line.
• Bespoke toolkits including sporting reminiscence guidance materials and books.
• A regular sports reminiscence newsletter - "The Sporting Pink"
Tasks:
1. To regularly liaise with the Project Coordinator, including ensuring the weekly monitoring form is completed and attend training and support and supervision sessions, as required.
2. To take a register of attendees
3. To plan a programme of activities and ensure the resources and equipment are available when required for running the group.
4. Establish some ground rules with the group.
5. Ensure everyone feels involved in conversation and activities.
6. Be aware of health and safety and capability of group members when delivering any physical activities.
7. To help promote the group & establish a regular number of participants.
8. To pass out any relevant information and signpost to other agencies.
9. To listen to group members and use the information to plan sessions relating to their interests and wishes.
10. Support Area Project Coordinator, where required, to help arrange speakers and trips to other venues.
11. Be involved in group evaluation and feedback sessions.
12. Travel independently to each session.
Person Specification
Competency / Essential / DesirableAttitudes and Values / An understanding of the key issues faced by an ageing population
Basic understanding of the benefits of reminiscence for people living with dementia
Understanding of and empathy with Sporting Memories’
Considerate and caring approach to group members. / Can demonstrate experience of group facilitation
Experience of volunteering
An interest or knowledge of Sport
Work Experience / Experience of working in a relatively unsupervised manner and for being responsible for organising their own workload and schedule. / Experience of working with older people or other vulnerable groups.
Previous experience of community work or something similar.
Qualifications / Full driving licence and access to a vehicle during working time
Communication / Good interpersonal, general communication and telephone skills.
Evidence of basic IT skills.
Ability to listen effectively and respond to individual interests/capabilities
Good spoken and written English / Use of own computer with online access
Ability to produce written reports and routine communications with minimal assistance.
Record Keeping / Ability to oversee collection of regular monitoring and quality evaluation records plus petty cash, transport and health and safety records. / Experience of routine record keeping
Professional Relationships / Ability to work as part of a team and to initiate, sustain and respond to various people in a range of external professional and community organisations.
Ability to relate purposefully and communicate effectively with people with dementia, other cognitive issues and their carers in a way which shows sensitivity and understanding of their needs.
Ability to operate within the values and structures of Sporting Memories Network
Ability to relate purposefully and communicate effectively with all relevant parties / Experience of developing inter-organisational relationships and partnerships.
Supervising Skills / Ability to supervise and lead volunteers in facilitating tasks.
Understand and act responsibly within the line management structure.”
