ATHLETE INVESTMENT PROGRAMME

SAILING

Agreed Minimum Performance Standards

These performance standards have been agreed with the RYANI as minimum performance criteria for the Athlete Investment Programme. In addition to meeting the agreed criteria for consideration for AIP support, athletes must also demonstrate their future potential to achieve international sporting success at Olympic, World, European or Commonwealth level.

The following considerations will be taken into account when applications for the Athlete Investment Programme are made:

  • For each level of funding, sailors must be members of their relative National Authority Squad (GBR or IRL) or campaigning as part of a NGB funded programme.
  • All athletes must commit to a comprehensive long-term training and event programme and the decision to put forward sailors will be at the discretion of the RYANI Performance Committee, based on this commitment. There is no guarantee that an individual will receive funding based on achievement of criteria below.
  • Each athlete will be evaluated on performance dependant on the class in which they are sailing. The following criteria are based on:

Junior U15 / Optimist, Topper, Laser 4.7, Laser Radial
Youth U19 / Laser Radial, Laser Standard, 420
Developmental (U23) and Senior / Laser Radial (men and women), Laser Standard and 49er

Other Olympic classes will be dealt with on an individual basis.

  • The RYANI Performance Committee reserves the right to draw upon any single or multiple factors when deciding funding applications and will consider the depth of competition at submitted events.
  • The criteria will be subject to ongoing review by the RYANI Performance Committee
  • Sailors representing GBR at senior level will be put forward by RYANI on a case by case basis.
