Activity 13 – The Providers…

Sport development is all around us…..but who actually provides it?

This question is not as simple as it first looks, as sport development is delivered in lots of different ways and appears in many forms!

Maybe it’s a bit late for this but hey, who cares! Let’s have a look at a couple of definitions of sport development terminology before we go any further:

So, bearing in mind these definitions, can you think of any organisations that provide sport development on either an international, national or local level?

If so, get them down below….

Over the few weeks we are going to look at a range of organisations that provide sport development – in many different ways.

Let’s start with sport development at INTERNATIONAL level!

At this level organisations will mainly be developing (and funding) development initiatives that will be rolled out at national/local level.

A good example of this is the IOC (International Olympic Committee). They have numerous programmes that aim to develop sport (as well as having many other target areas), such as the example below:

Bearing in mind the progress the IOC have made already in this area, see if you can find out any data from the Beijing Games in 2008. If you can, use the space below to note your findings.

Having looked at an example of sport development from an international perspective, we are now going to look at organisations from a national & local level.

The beauty of sport development is that it is all around us…so there is always plenty of information at hand for you!

Ok then, let’s have a look at a national example:

To conclude this section we are going to look at a local provider from the public sector – have a read & see what you reckon!
