Role and Responsibilities
Directly reporting to the CEO of the Nazareth Trust (NT) The Spiritual Director is a valued, focused Christian leader with strong people skills, who has responsibility of operating as an internal consultant and leader of spiritual affairs, championing employee welfare, promoting employee relations and providing confidential advice and support to all employees. Ultimately leads and sets an example for desired behaviour and puts the Christian values and ideology of the Nazareth Trust values at the heart of the organisation’s operations.
- Work closely with the Executive Management Team (EMT) and the Chief Executive as a relationship manager to explore and understand the application of the organisation’s Christian principles into the strategic direction.
- To bring forward for approval and support the implementation of a strategy for embedding a Christian values-led culture.
- Recommend suitable/appropriate drivers of engagement that align with our vision, mission and values.
- Provide proactive support to organisational change processes and recommended interventions ensuring they are fair, equitable and align to our values.
- In partnership with the EMT, coach and advise people, managers and leaders on strategies to sustain a values-led culture.
- Provide counsel to all employees who request individual support.
- Work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams to break down any divisions or departmental barriers and encourage internal and external partnership working.
- Partner with the appropriate employee committees and HR department to design and deploy interventions to foster inclusion and unity across all groups.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the CEO, the Board of Trustees and EMT on spiritual development, employee engagement and cultural change.
- Act as lead facilitator for a variety of community engagement initiatives such as volunteer and service projects to support the Nazareth Trust.
- Support in extending The Trusts external network and building links with likeminded organisations at a national and international level.
- Support teams and individuals (including the Chaplaincy team) to successfully implement spiritual engagement activities for colleagues, families and community partners.
- Display a strong understanding of multi faiths and cultures that will enhance and support with people engagement and communication.
- Spiritual Care capacities – able to display emotional intelligence and engender trust with colleagues, employees, patients and families.
- Problem Solving – Turns ambiguous or difficult situations into opportunities, by producing strategies to solve organisation-wide problems, considering the associated practical and political concerns
- Organisational Awareness – Leads the organisation by setting the highest standard in upholding integrity, honesty and ethical behaviour, based upon Christian principles.
- Strategic Thinking – Sets spiritual priorities by identifying where time and investment is needed most.
- Building and Managing Relationships – Actively challenges and addresses ‘silo’ attitudes to encourage effective relationship building.
- Communication and Influencing – Acts as a credible and convincing spokesperson and negotiator for The Nazareth Trust in spiritually focused relationships internally and externally, including with those of other faiths.
- Team Work and Collaboration – Understands the relational complexities and sensitivities within which the organisation operates and uses these to inform and enhance relationships and promote Christian values.
- Experience of the Arab Culture and language.
- Living and operating in a multi faith environment.
- Pastoral / Chaplaincy / Mission field experience
- Some form of theological or seminary training
- Able to live and work in Israel for more than 1 year.
