Speller’s Choice Activities
Here is a GIANT list of FUN ways to practice your spelling words during the week. Choose 7 activities to turn in by the end of the 2 week period.
Activity / What it is:Colorful Vowels / Write each spelling word 3 times each in pencil, then go over the vowels only with a crayon or marker.
ABC Order / Write your words in ABC order.
Fancy Words / Write each of your spelling words using “fancy letters” such as glitter, puffy, bubble letters, etc.
Fun Fonts / Type your words on your computer in a fun font. Print and bring to school.
Rainbow Words / Write your words in different colors, making a pattern.
Ex: elephant , elephant , elephant , or elephant
Ransom Words / On a piece of paper cut out letters from a newspaper or magazine and glue the letters to spell a spelling word like this:
Spelling Memory* / Write TWO sets of spelling words on index cards. Flip them all over, have someone play with you, flip 2 cards over at a time. If they match, keep them and get another turn. If they DON’T match, the next person goes.
Rhyming Words / Write each spelling word, and then write 1 word that rhymes with it. If you need to make up a word to rhyme you can. J
Spelling Math / Use the table of letters below. Each letter is worth a number.
Add up the numbers to see how much each spelling word is worth!
A=3 / B=5 / C=10 / D=12 / E=1 / F=9
G=2 / H=11 / I=5 / J=4 / K=2 / L=11
M=1 / N=3 / O=5 / P=3 / Q=7 / R=9
S=2 / T=8 / U=2 / V=8 / W=2 / X=10
Y=14 / Z=4
Example: Keep=2+1+1+3=7
Spelling Story / Write a story using each of your spelling words.
Sentences / Use each spelling words in a complete, descriptive sentence.
Pyramid Words / Write your words one letter at a time to form a pyramid.
Ex:

Money Spelling / Use the table below. Each letter is worth either a penny (p), a
nickel (n), a dime (d), or a quarter (q). Figure out how much each
of your spelling words are worth!
A=d / B=q / C=n / D=p / E=q / F=p
G=n / H=n / I=q / J=q / K=p / L=n
M=n / N=q / O=q / P=p / Q=n / R=d
S=d / T=p / U=n / V=q / W=d / X=q
Y=n / Z=q
Example: Light=n+q+n+n+p=$0.41
Illustrated Words / Write each spelling word and illustrate it.
Hidden Words / Draw a picture and hide your spelling words somewhere in the picture (just make sure they can be seen).
Practice Test / Have an adult or older brother/sister give you your spelling test.
They MUST check it and sign the bottom for credit.
