SPEECH BY PRINCIPAL, COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND VETERINARY SCIENCES – PHPT ODeL ORIENTATION AND SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP
Director: CODL and e-learning, Chairman, PHPT, Dean Vet. Medicine, Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen
It is indeed my pleasure to be here this morning to preside over the ODeL sensitization and orientation workshop organized by the department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology.
First and foremost, I wish to welcome the Director, Centre for ODeL programs and her team to the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences. Please feel at home.
The University of Nairobi is keen to see many of its academic programs delivered through open and distant e-learning mode.
The aim is to provide alternative and excellent opportunities for accessing quality and relevant university education to as many people as possible.
Many people out there long to study through the University of Nairobi, but they are unable to attend our traditional residential classes for one reason or another. ODeL programs will accord them this opportunity.
The University will also be able to enhance its income through expanded admission to various academic programs as physical facilities will cease to be a limiting factor.
It is indeed encouraging to see the bold move taken by the Department of PHPT to initiate training of staff with the ultimate aim of promoting ODeL delivery of academic programs in the college.
I am happy to hear that more training programs will follow this sensitization and orientation workshop. Today’s workshop will be a solid foundation for your future training needs to enable you design and deliver academic programs through ODeL mode.
I wish to thank the Director, Centre for ODeL programs and her team for agreeing to come and conduct this and future training workshops for the Department of Public Health, Pharmacology and Toxicology.
I will request that you extent this kind gesture to other departments in the college to enable us design and deliver as many of our academic programs as possible through ODeL mode in line with the University policy.
I wish all of you a fruitful day as you engage in this important exercise.
Thank you very much.
