Dear Parent,

Your child has been referred to the Trafford Language Outreach Service by your child’s school anda meeting will take place shortly to consider if your childcurrently meets the criteria for support from the Service. If it is felt that your child has specific difficulty with language and communication skills a speech and language therapist from the language outreach service will visit your child at school and provide advice for the teaching team.

Programmes and helpful strategies will be written and given to the school SENCOand school staff working with your child. The Language Outreach Speech and Language Therapist will work with your child’s school to ensure that the language programme is implemented within school. Your child’s progress will be monitored termly and further programmes and strategies provided as appropriate.

Your child’s speech and language needs will be reassessed at the end of the first year of support. The Language Outreach Service will provide further support if the assessment identifies significant language needs that are not fully supported by the school. If your child has made good progress then we may recommend that specialist intervention is no longer required. In addition when everyone supporting your child understands the language strategies that help him/her and are confident in using these, we will alsorecommend that speech and language intervention is no longer required.

We often train students. If a student is involved with your child’s therapy, the student will be under our supervision and will adhere to the same confidentiality rules.

We are always happy to discuss our involvement with your child. Please contact the team at Sale Waterside on 912 2592.

Please sign and return the consent form to your child’s school SENCo to be included in the referral pack so that we have got your permission to work with your child in school should they meet the criteria.

If your child does not meet the criteria for language outreach this form will be returned to your child’s school

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Debbie Swift, Mrs Lucy McGill
