DATA & SPECIFICATIONS

SURFACE TOLERANT ANTI-CORROSION TAPE SYSTEMS

SPC PETGARD

TAPE systems are designed for applications to wire brushed surfaces – providing long-life, high-performance corrosion protection.

1.0 Surface Preparation

1.1 Remove dirt, grease, oil & excessive moisture & frost.

1.2 Remove loose rust, paint & foreign matter by hand &/or power tool cleaning in accordance with SSPC SP2 or SP3

2.0 SPC PETGARD Primer Application

2.1 Apply a thin uniform film over the entire surface to be wrapped

2.2 A liberal coating of SPC PETGARD Primer shall be applied to threads, cavities, shoulders, pits & other irregularities.

2.3 SPC PETGARD Primer (underwater) shall be used when excessive moisture is present on the surface (i.e. sweating line), or for underwater applications

3.0 SPC PETGARD Mastic Fill Application

3.1 To protect complex surfaces & configurations such as valve bodies, flanges, dresser couplings, pipe hangers etc, SPC Mastic Fill shall be moulded & packed into irregularities to eliminate bridging & voids prior to wrapping

4.0 SPC PETGARD Wrap Application

4.1 SPC PETGARD Wrap shall be spirally wound using a minimum 1” Overwrap. Where additional protection is required, & for all buried applications, the overwrap shall be increased to 55% to ensure a double thickness of material. For vertical applications the wrap shall begin at the bottom & proceed up – providing a “weatherboard” overlap.

4.2 SPC PETGARD Wrap may be applied longitudinally (i.e. “cigarette wrapped”), when space is too restricted or confined to apply in preferred spiral manner. A minimum 1” overwrap shall be used with the overwrap on the topside of the pipe providing a “weatherboard” effect.

4.3 At the completion of each roll, smooth the overlaps in the direction of the spiral to ensure sealing of the overlap. Maintain a 2” overlap when overlapping one roll with the end of a new roll. Overlap must occur on the top half of the pipe.

5.0 SPC PETGARD Application

5.1 When mechanical protection from backfill & soil stress is required, SPC PETGARD outerWrap shall be spirally overwrapped with SPC PETGARD – using a 55% overwrap.

Petroleum-based SPC PETGARD Coatings are non-toxic, non flammable & non-conductive
