Dear resident or business,Geelong’s waterfront will host the fourth annual Geelong Multi Sport Festival on Friday 7th to Sunday 9th February, delivering three days of sport and community activities for all ages and abilities. The festival also benefits the Geelong Give Where You Live program as the events charity partner.

The event participants will be running and cycling on the roadway. To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary road closures, tow away zones and clear ways will be implemented. The times and locations of the changed traffic conditions vary over the events three day program. Please refer to the following information for details relating to changed traffic conditions in your area. Detour signage and event marshals will be in place to provide directions to motorists.Delays maybe experienced, while the participants are on the road.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times during the road closure period.

FRIDAY 7th FEBRUARY

The festival begins with the Geelong Advertiser Foreshore5km Fun Run supporting Give Where You Live on Friday morning, commencing at 7.30am.

Starting and concluding on Steampacket Gardens, the event participants will be running or walking on the footpaths to Lower Hearne Parade, they will than continue on the roads.
To ensure everyone’s safety and to facilitate the run the following roads will be closed:

  • Lower Hearne Parade and a section of Eastern Park Circuit, between Upper Hearne Parade and Podbury Drive, closed from 6.30am to 8.30am.

SATURDAY 8th FEBRUARY

The IRONKIDS and Special Triathlon takes place on the waterfront from 9.00am; both triathlons commence and conclude on Eastern Beach. To ensure everyone’s safety, the following roads will be closed:

  • The Esplanade, Western Beach Road and Eastern Beach Road, between Glenleith Avenue and Bellerine Street, will be closed from 7.30am to approximately 11.00am.
  • Ritchie Boulevardclosed from 5.30am to approximately 11.00am.

WATERFRONTACCESS ADVICE

  • Vehicle access to Cunningham Pier is available via Cunningham Street only. Proceed across Western Beach Road and onto Cunningham Pier (and vice versa for motorists exiting this area.)
  • Access to the residents of Edgewater and the Brougham Street Apartments is available via a slip lane between Yarra Street and Steampacket Place, during the road closure period.

SUNDAY 9th FEBRUARY

Witness some amazing athletes compete in the IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong and Geelong 5150 Triathlon, taking place on the Geelong Waterfront, the action all begins at 7.05am on Sunday.Road closures will be implemented along the triathlons course.

Roadclosure and their reopening times are included in the course map below. Please note:

  • Tow Away Zones apply in Ritchie Boulevard and Upper Eastern Beach Road from 12.01am to 6.00pm, on Sunday 9th February.
  • The Geelong - Portarlington Road will be closed on both sides to Hermsley Road, Curlewis. This road closure includes the Point Henry Road. Motorists will be detoured to the Bellarine Highway.
  • Hermsley Road and Avila Road, closed from 7.30am to 11.30am.

WATERFRONTACCESS ADVICE

  • Vehicle access to Cunningham Pier is available by Cunningham Street, from Brougham Street, only. Proceed across Western Beach Road and onto Cunningham Pier (and vice versa for motorists exiting this area.)
  • Access to the Edgewater and Brougham Street Apartments is available at all times via a slip lane, implemented between Yarra Street and Steampacket Place.
  • Valet parking is available for the guests of Four Points by Sheratonon Brougham Street, during the road closure period. This parking is behind the Four Points by Sheraton building.
  • Vehicle access to The VUE andPromenade Apartmentscarparksis available via Bellerine Street. The Promenade Apartments car park on Brougham Street is available via Bellerine Street or travelling east along Brougham Street.

EASTERN PARK AND THE LIMEBURNERS BOAT RAMP

Vehicle access to the Geelong Conference Centre will not be available between 6.00am and 1.00pm on Sunday 9th February.

Vehicle access to the East Geelong Golf Courseand the Geelong Botanic Gardenswill not be available between 6.00am and 2.00pm on Sunday 9th February.

Limeburners Boat Ramp will be closed between 6.00am and 2.00pm. The St Helen’s Boat Ramp in North Geelong will be open.

THE FESTIVALS WEEKEND ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS

BUSINESS DELIVERIES

Deliveries will be limited during the road closure periods. Please advise your staff and suppliers of the events changed traffic conditions. If you have any enquires, contact IRONMAN on 1300 835 411.

TEMPORARY CHANGES TO BUS SERVICES

Bus stops along the events course cannot be serviced during the events. Please visit for a revised bus time table, providing advice on the closest bus stop and the bus route beingimplemented, during the road closure periods.

THE WATERFRONT AND THE CITY

The waterfront and the city will be a buzz with excitement. The city’s café’s, restaurants and shops are open. Come along and watch some of Australia’s best sports people compete!
