NEWPORT BEACH and RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. – Spa Gregorie's continues its long history of community-based philanthropy with the 10th annual Massage-A-Thon, Auction for the Cure and Soul to Sole Run/Walk Team in support of the 18th annual Komen Orange County Race for the Cure on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009.

Spa Gregorie's Massage-A-Thon will take place, Race Day, from 8 a.m. until noon. Registered Race participants and spectators cheering on loved ones are invited to stop by Spa Gregorie's Race Boutique for an affordable $1 per minute massage and the purchase of much in-demand Spa Goody Bags. All funds raised at the event will be donated to the Komen Orange County Affiliate. The Race for the Cure Wellness Expo is located in back of the Pacific Life Building at 700 Newport Center Dr. in Newport Beach.

As in years past, annual Race outreach and fundraising activities will also include the popular Auction for the Cure in support of the Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Bidding on the silent auction opens Monday, September 28, 2009.

New this year, Spa Gregorie’s is offering another meaningful way to get involved. County residents are invited to support the Spa’s Run/Walk Team, Soul to Sole, and be in the running to receive great weekly prizes once registered.

Orange County’s award-winning Spa strives to continually expand its already extensive community outreach program. In 2008, as a Diamond Level Sponsor of the Komen Orange County Race for the Cure, the Spa’s efforts raised more than $46,000 and provided $18,000 in gift certificates for top fundraisers. The Race, scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2009, draws more than 35,000 participants and spectators each year.

Dozens of notable businesses – both local and national – have teamed with Spa Gregorie’s to help ensure that this is the most successful year to date. Destination auction items feature a three-day, two-night inclusive stay for two at the Red Mountain Spa in Utah (worth $1,560); two-day, three-night spa retreat at The Oaks at Ojai; three-day, two-night Florida golf vacation at the Ginn Hammock Beach Resort; and three-days, two nights in Hawaii at the Westin Maui. Local goodies include a weekend at the Ritz Carlton, plus a 60-minute massage; two massage treatments at Pelican Hill; and the use of a duffy boat for an evening on Newport Harbor, complete with dinner at Harborside Restaurant. Additional auction items include two autographed basketballs – one signed by Bill Walton, the other by Luke Walton; an exclusive 2009 Master’s tournament robe; four Tiger Woods golf shirts; golf lessons, a pink scooter; and much more! Bidding for the auction begins Monday, September 28, 2009.

“The participation by the community is staggering, even with the current state of the economy,” says Spa Gregorie’s Principal Angela Cortright. “Nearly everyone is affected in someway by this vicious disease, either personally or through a friend or family member. It’s wonderful to see people come together in such force to raise awareness and support.”

About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Through events like the Komen Race for the Cure, nearly $1 billion has been invested to fulfill that promise, making Komen for the Cure the world's largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to fighting breast cancer.

About the Komen Race for the Cure®

The Komen Race for the Cure Series is the world's largest and most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer. Last year's Orange County Race for the Cure generated more than $3 million, 75% of which was invested in local breast cancer awareness, education, medical and diagnostic programs.
