LOCATION: Civic 1 Victoria Avenue, Southend On Sea, Essex, SS2 6FY

HOURS OF WORK: 7am – 7pm (60 hours per week)

SALARY: £7.50 per hour

CONTRACTUAL STATUS: Permanent

PURPOSE OF ROLE

As a Security Officer for South Essex Property Services you will be part of a security team that is capable of responding to any incident, ensuring the safety of all individuals, protecting property at the Civic Centre, and carrying out the day to day running of the building.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Security Officer will be expected to undertake any duties consistent with their role within the organisation.

Ensure compliance with performance, quality and service standards, policies and procedures and ensure the highest possible standards of service.

Ensure compliance with delivering service improvements consistent with the organisations objective of delivering excellent services.

Responsibilities

1.  To supervise and provide a physical security presence at the Civic Centre’s main entrances and access points.

2.  To monitor and authorise the entrance and departure of employees, contractors and other persons, to guard against theft and maintain security of the premises.

3.  To maintain constant staffing of the Civic Centre, in order to take immediate action to deal with fire alarms, intruder alarms, , building management systems and to monitor the CCTV cameras)to be alert to any suspicious activity.

4.  To provide regular, high profile, internal and external patrols of the premises to prevent and detect any signs of intrusion. To ensure the security of doors, windows and gates, and to safeguard confidential material/information.

5.  To have a thorough knowledge of the Civic Centre building plan/layout in order to respond to emergencies/incident effectively.

6.  To convey a smart, well groomed appearance in approved SEPS uniform, provide a first class customer service and display high levels of vigilance throughout a shift.

Tasks:

1.  To be aware of and report, any incidents or suspicious activities, in person or via radio communication and record accurate reports of activities and irregularities in an Incident book. To greet and provide assistance to visitors/contractors with relevant security procedures carried out such as screening, ensuring completion of signing in/out sheets and issuing Temporary Visitor Passes where appropriate.

2.  When required to supervise parking, to ensure that all vehicles entering the Civic Parking Area adhere to the guidelines of designated parking areas.

3.  To answer telephone calls/radio message to provide assistance to, and liaise with the FM and Maintenance & Cleaning departments and office staff regarding deliveries, the arrival of visitors/contractors, “out of hours” enquiries and other relevant occurrences.

4.  To liaise with SBC FM staff during high profile events, particularly in the unlocking of all areas accessed for an event, including the management of the underground car park gate.

5.  To ensure that a thorough lock-down patrol is carried out on a nightly basis and that all area/door alarms and PIR’s are activated. A nightly lock up sheet must be completed to record anything of relevance.

6.  Ensure that hourly check ins are made with the 24/7 security centre

7.  To maintain a reasonable level of fitness in order to perform duties including, responding to activated intruder alarms, knowing how to handle threatening situations, apprehending and warning persons of Rule violations and the eviction of violators from premises, obtaining Police presence when necessary.

Activities

1.  To distribute keys, where you see relevant, and record details in key Log Sheet. This may involve liaising with the Facilities Manager where Health/Safety requirements, contractor induction issues or access to roof areas are involved.

2.  To confidently, clearly and concisely operate the CCTV system for emergency situations.

3.  To ensure adequate degrees of lighting are available to all relevant areas in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.

4.  To keep a record of all property handed in or reported lost, facilitate retrieval of said items whenever possible, by their rightful owner, by telephone for collection.

5.  To ensure items of high importance or value are stored in the Security cage and to inform recipients of their arrival prior to collection.

6.  To complete all necessary documentation to ensure a proper audit trail.

7.  Carry out duties to help support the SEPS mission statement in line with the Company’s core values.

Previous work as a Security Officer, Police, Fire or Prison Services or Armed Forces is desirable / Previous experience working in a general customer focused role is beneficial
