South Task Force Minutes
November 14-15, 2014

Present: John Etheredge (Chairperson), Cynthia Hayes, Jonas Georges, Joseph Johnson, Clara Nunez (Staff).

The September 19, 2014 minutes were approved.
The Status report was received.
CONTINUED REVIEW
SS14014 Bonded Women, Claxton, GA
John Etheredge reported on his site visit. After discussion and review, the application was determined to meet the SDOP criteria. The Task Force will recommend the application to the National Committee for VALIDATION AND FUNDING for $15,000 in quarterly payments. John will prepare the précis to be presented at the January 2015 National Committee meeting.
SS14016 AMPEDI – The Milne Inspiration Center New Orleans, LA
The Task Force voted to REJECT this application because it doesn’t meet criteria of being owned and controlled by the direct beneficiaries. The project as presented doesn’t appear to be owned and controlled by the youth.
SS14017 HAPPY – Carolina Alliance for Fair Employment Hartsville, SC
The Task force authorized John Etheredge to do a SITE VISIT.
OTHER BUSINESS
The South Task Force members brainstormed ways to bring in more applications and to spreading the word about SDOP. Some suggestions were:
- Bring a branding and marketing consultant to develop the SDOP brand.
- Repackage Mission. Connect SDOP with Mission.
- Focus visits within presbyteries. Personal Touch. Connecting. In a regular basis. Request time at Presbytery meetings.
- Visit churches when traveling.
- Contact organizations, ecumenical partners, churches within a city to spread the word in a city.
- PSAs.
o Cities have free radio channels that look for space to put in the air. Radios.
o Contact newspapers
- At workshops spend time in criteria.
- Don’t wait for folks to come to us.
