Salt House, Kirkland

Salt House, a new mission start of the Northwest Washington Synod, held its first worship service on March 29, 2015. While seeking to serve all, our particular focus is on reaching emerging adults (those in their 20s and 30s.)

Our mission is to help young adults live like Jesus through engagement with God (Come), each other (Thrive), and the needs of the world (Go). To develop that further, Comeis an invitation to nurture one’s relationship with God—Jesus embodied what this life-giving relationship looks like. Thriveis to play together, to develop a sense of belonging, to be challenged, and to grow in community. Go is to be sent people, engaging the local neighborhood and the world. We are made to be a part of God’s mission and so we Go to serve and love people in Jesus’ name.

We are all about discipleship. We are trying, therefore, to build a structure that will enable that to happen.

You’re just starting. What kind of future do you see?

We’ll center much of what we do around food—eating together, sharing meals with others throughout our week, and engaging in the needs for food in our neighborhood. We’ll experiment a lot with worship and with how we nurture discipleship. We expect we’ll be changing as new people join us. As this community takes form, they’ll have a chance to listen to their own passions as well as the needs and gifts of the wider neighborhood. . . and let God show them the way.

Needs and Gifts

How might other synod congregations support you?

  • Pray for us as we listen to God, listen to each other, and listen to our neighborhood.
  • Spread the word. Let young people know about this developing community of faith. Young people communicate by social media. So, “like” us on Facebook, etc. and continue to engage with the photos and the comments.
  • Help with providing food for our twice a month dinners. Call for details.
  • Provide financial contributions. (We are dealing with a population that doesn’t have much money, or are living at home, or are not employed, or are just learning to be responsible.)

What gifts do you have to share with others?

We’ll know more as we grow and mature, but, for now, we have:

  • Music and resources for more modern worship.
  • Knowledge to find videos for use in worship.
