Workshops

1.  Debbie Morris will be attending the NC School Library Association meeting on November 3-4. This is a workshop for renewal credit. Trish gave approval for this workshop to be funded.

2.  Becky Anderson will attend an annual Health/Physical Educator convention on November 11-12th. This workshop is funded this year by a grant that Becky received.

Copy Machine

Ardel asked did we want to consider putting one of the copiers down in Room 80, while also giving consideration to the groups who use this room to work with children, have LTMs, etc. Yes, we should consider this.

Non-school personnel (volunteers, parent helpers, etc) may not use school copy machines without permission from Trish.

Reminder to be courteous of others if you have a large amount to copy. Utilize Desiree more, or see Trish or Ardel to have something sent to print shop.

Fundraising Ideas sent in to Charlene.

1.  Parent Night Out

2.  School Store---use more often

3.  Car Magnets---PTA will be using this idea

4.  Candy, Pickles, etc---PTA sponsors this already

5.  Raffle off gift baskets

6.  Rubber Bracelets

7.  Cookbook---Mickey will look into this

8.  Coupon Cards to places like Sonic, McDonalds, etc---Angie will look into this

Debbie Morris wanted clarification as to what we needed to raise money for. Trish stated that this was raising funds for the General School Fund.

Go back to your teams and find out what the team thinks about Parent Night Out. Charge $5-8 per child, have activities, movie, etc.

Also find out what your team thinks about a “Dinner Theater” during the 1st grade musical on November 18th. Spaghetti Dinner, Pizza Dinner, etc. Possibly getting business sponsors to donate food or funds to purchase food. Have staff serve, clear plates, etc.

BY-Laws

Last school year we updated the By-Laws to state that if we had the need for an interim Vice Chair, the secretary would immediately assume the role of Vice Chair while maintaining the role of Secretary. This year, we need to update the by-laws to reflect the need for an interim Secretary.

SIT approves the following: “In the event for the need of an interim Secretary, a volunteer from the current SIT committee will be voted on to assume the role of Secretary.” This will be presented at the next faculty meeting for a staff vote.

Technology Funds

The Title 1 funds are here and we will soon be ready to place orders for more boards. Theme Money should be here soon. We will order as many boards as we possibly can.

TIF Grant

Teacher Incentive Funding Grant. 16 schools were chosen…South Fork was one of them. We will be partnered with another school. 1 school in the partnership will get a 1% bonus next year. The other school will get bonus money if the class raises proficiency, the grade level raises proficient, and the school raises proficiency. This bonus money would be available to all staff members.

Trish does not know which school we will be, and she has no say in it at all. Someone from Central Office will come out and explain this further. Each school would get the same type and amount of staff development. Does incentive pay increase achievement?

Trish needs a volunteer ASAP…a CORE Teacher…to represent our school at the TIF meetings. These will be every Thursday from 3:30 – 4:30 until the end of the calendar year.

PbiS—Dress Code issues

PbiS discussed the lack of enforcement and consistency on our school’s current dress code. Discuss with your teams the current student dress code. Also find out how they feel about school uniforms. Also consider the policy Wiley Middle School has in place called a “Standard Mode of Dress” which is a modified dress code instead of uniforms. (Students only wear certain colors of shirts, pants, etc). Bring back thoughts and opinions from your team. Whatever we decide must be approved by the School Board.

Noise and other Cafeteria Issues

A discussion was held regarding the noise level and other cafeteria policies. Please refer to Ardel’s email on October 13th for more information about this topic.

School Improvement Plan

Going to a 2 year plan instead of 3 year plan. Go over pg 4 with your team and discuss how your grade level supports these issues. This feedback is due back to Trish this week.

A unanimous vote was held to cancel Science Night. However, science boards will be on sale in the office and on Nov.18th during the 1st grade musical as well.

Next meeting will be on Thursday, October 20th at 3pm to discuss the School Improvement Plan.
